Does anyone know a better way though?

Because this means a renaming job of 1000+ files, and I'm on windows
That is very easy in Windows if all the files are in the same directory. Just open a command line window in that directory and type RENAME *.ZIP *.TXT.ZIP

Just to be safe, I would do that on a directory with copies of your files to avoid the chance of a typo causing something to go wrong.

That is dependent on the reader application designated to open those file types. AFAIK CoolReader can do that with all the types that it supports and that it is the designated reader for.

I have no experience with that one and it does not seem to make much sense for novel type books. It would make sense for image files though, but again, I have no experience there.

At the BookShelf level of operation that depends on the BookShelf application, and not the specific reader application. I used to use OI a long time back when it was fast and stable but I have not used it since it's support for the Hanlin devices got slow and unstable. That ZIP capability must have been something new added to the OI BookShelf application since I migrated away OR I may have just missed it since it was of no use to me.

Perhaps the Jotas or Tirwal firmware packages are something that you may want to check out?

Also try a freeware program called BulkRenameUtility - GUI based for Windows.

It is very good and very fast - it would rename 1000 files in less than a minute.

Yes, tried it, same issue. I'm on the june one now, but I did the rename (*.zip -> *.txt.zip). Works nicely enough, I think I'll stay with this for a while...

Thanx to everyone for the help !
