Assuming all the numbers are legit, we have a max so far of 7499 from Caro, and the next highest is DiabloNL's 4657.

In the "Be Counted" Poll there are 198 Sony Readers, if the universe of distributed Readers is 8691 (assuming that all produced are sold), then MobileRead members represent 2.28% of the market. This is significant. If lurkers and unsold units are factored in it is an even more impressive number.

Are you suggesting some of them won't be sold? Perish the thought, RWood!

There are probably some mfg defect losses, and we know of a few returns around here, that sort of thing is pretty much unavoidable.

Would it help to post when we go the unit along with the serial number?

Just wondering.

No, I am suggesting that there might be one or two hidden under a rock, stashed behind an oversized coffee table book in the back of a Boarders, or hidden on a shelf waiting for Christmas morning to be given.

What I am saying is that using the number of MobileRead members that have reported that they have a Sony Reader and given the number of Sony Readers we can suspect of being distributed in the USA based on the Serial Numbers that a significant number of them are represented in this forum.

The 2.28% was a solid number earlier today. Since there are lurkers (visitors) that have never registered and been counted (and they always seem to outnumber the members) that the real influence of this forum is more like 5% to 10%. If you then add a few points for units that have yet to be given (that are in reserve), those that were given to the press for review, and the now and then DOA unit (like the ones mentioned with the vertical line) since this would reduce the universe of outstanding units.

Therefore, other than the CONNECT store, this may well represent the largest collection of Sony Reader users in the world.

If that happens, we'll have to call them Hoarders.
