This is great news. Thanks to Barnes and Noble for providing an affordable ebook reader that would be a good graduation gift. The Nook vs Kobo battle begins.

The price drop and wifi version makes the Nook more interesting. Plus I already have a library of e-books already from Fictionwise/eReader. I'm really itching to just buy one but I might wait awhile longer. Are people generally happy with the Nook?

The Kobo is going to have to come down well below $100. it just can't stay at that price point, It would be like having a lexus and a civic priced the same. (slight exaggeration but you get the point)

Nice price drop but the fact the nook does not support simple text files has always removed from consideration for me sense over 60% of my drm free books are simple text download form PG and other sources. The lack of support for simple text and word doc has always been a mystery to me. Unless they want to make it harder to get free books on the nook .

You could always just use Calibre to convert those txt or doc files to something that the Nook will take.

Ordered a WiFi today. Wonder when they will be shipping.

Does anybody know what the return policy is for the Nook if I purchase it online? Can I return it to a store and is there a restocking fee? Also with the free shipping is it 2-3 business days or longer?

This new announcement will push me over to get a Nook for my wife. The local stores don't have them yet and don't know when they will get them so I'll probably just order it online but want to make sure about the return policy.

Thanks.

Kobo is probably in for a bit of trouble as far as US sales through Borders go, but AFAIK B&N isn't selling their device anywhere but the US are they? Not that a Nook can't be had by someone outside the US, but your average consumer isn't likely to jump through hoops to get it.

I just went to buy it online but it says Not Yet Released. I assumed it was available today but that doesn't seem to be the case. Has anybody heard when it will be available?

I don't suppose they've worked out a way to do collections yet? ...this is almost worth the trouble of getting a friend to get me one and send it. Hmn.

It seems to be the exact same device without 3G, nash, so I'm guessing not.

Blah. Pity. Someone really needs to smack them into realizing that some people have a lot of books they want to take with them at any one time, and organization is ones friend.

...still. It's cheaper and less likely to send me broke than half the readers I like.

Price adjustment

So, I just got my Nook last week when it had the $50 gift card offer. I was a little surprised and upset about the price drop today since I had spent more not even 5 days ago! But, I called the B&N that I got my Nook from and it turns out that if you bought the Nook very recently and did not use your $50 gift card, you can bring in your receipt, return your gift card for a $50 refund and they refund you the $10 difference. The Nook was $209 with the gift card offer and they willl refund the difference. That's $60 back!
Now if you were like me and you used the gift card to buy a great cover and bought a few books, they will only refund you the $10 difference in the price of the Nook. Still not a bad deal! Overall happy with how my B&N branch is handling the price change.
If anyone else needs to do it, I hope it is the policy in all, but I would inquire first since it may vary by store.

I'm going to go old school and get the 3G. Would be especially useful if I perform some "unauthorized" access.
