I just found the mobile url for my yahoo email and that worked pretty well. It took me about 2 minutes to get to the site, read a few emails and send an email to myself. I was quite taken with the interface.

It turns out there's a bunch of useful bookmarks already on the device linked to mobile friendly web sites (BBC, CNN, weather etc) which all work fine. Oddly I couldn't access the BBC - I suspect it thinks I'm in the US. The kindle store also shows me prices in USD so it looks like I'll be getting cheap books! The battery is definitely affected by being on the internet all the time though - I've been piddling around all day on the internet and it's now gone down by 1/4.

So the 'import fees deposit' it asks you for when you click through the buying options (if a UK resident) isn't the same thing?

I'm afraid I don't know what you're referring to. When you buy a Kindle from the UK, as I did, the price that you pay is the total price. Amazon pay all the taxes, etc, on your behalf. You have nothing extra to pay.

I have been thinking about buying a Kindle 2 as well - there are import taxes about £20.00 added onto the costs so the cost of a Kindle 2 comes to about £170-£180...
