Put the attached file driver.py in your calibre installation. On my Win7 installation, if goes in the folder
Code:
C:\Program Files\Calibre2\Lib\site-packages\calibre\devices\android
You will need to pattern-match if you are not running windows or if you have changed the installation folder.

Please do not overwrite any files. On windows, you don't need to, because the existing driver is named driver.pyc. I don't know about other OSs.

Please let me know if it works or not.

[edit]: I had to zip the driver to upload it. Be sure to unzip it.

The device trace indicates you have a card installed in your phone (drive e: ). Are you seeing it as well as the main memory?

If so, then we are done. I will commit the changes to be included in the next release. If not, then we still have some work to do.

Please remember to remove the temporary driver when you upgrade to the next release.

Yes I am seeing both both the card and internal memory.
I don't use the card just put it in so it would show up and you guys would know about it.
Now I can put it back into my old phone

I am guessing that there is a problem due to the space in the id string (which I think is against convention). It currently reads "PR OD" instead of "PROD".

@Boulonais: your phone is not reporting itself as the same device as the previous phone. It has yet another USB signature. I will add the new signature to the driver and, all things going well, it should show up in the next release.

@itimpi: I think that the space comes from how the information is copied and pasted. If fooled me once before.

same probs

hi

i wanted to dload some books and use the tts function. it seems that wordplay is the only one that does this efficiently - although when i try it it asks for another file which wasnt installed as part of the wordplay installation. i have emailed wordplay but they have an automatic response that they are not undertaking further development.

i looked at youtube and that told me that has one vid on wordplay http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUKbXDItSrA which stated that it syncs with calibre.

in any case i can see the phone and the sd card on windows explorer, but i cant see either using calibre "connect to folder". i have copied over the driver [not sure i was supposed to] from the zip file you put on, and that hasnt helped.

a clipboard using the method in the FAQs is as follows (with the phone including the sd card attached)

Looking at the debug trace there is no indication that the device has been mounted as a drive (which is required to be able to sync with Calibre)

No, don't use that driver. It is very out-of-date.

As itimpi said, no drive is detected. It is very strange that no USB drives were reported for 'droid phone with an SD card inside. Are they actually mounted as drives, or are you seeing them in explorer with UNC paths (\\vol_label\a\b)?

Lately we have had a spate of problem reports apparently caused by the same drive letter being used for network connections and usb drives. Do you have network drives assigned and in use?

thanks . i have just tried the phone but its not recognised as a device at all. it seems this happens when the phone battery is low and the phone just then freezes. i tried this in various usb ports.

i will have to come back when the phone is charged. i do recall though that in explorer (XP) there was just aicon of a phone as a sub directory and the sd card as a separate one, and yet in callibre none of those appeared in the directory structure.

no network drives -its a stand alone PC, desktop. however i do have drive letters c through h. [basically a dvd writer and some card readers]. As i said i will retry this tomorrow - the battery needs recharging. thanks for your help.

You have to select mass storage in usb settings of your phone and then you get a notification to mount the drives press yes and then you will see the drives.

thanks - actually before i saw your post i looked at my manual. i had installed Kies previously but it didnt seem to work. infact for reasons unknown my sound stopped working completely, after some tinkering - i did a system restore that took me back pre- kies and the sound came back.

ok - so now i looked at the phone - about phone - usb settings, and the radio button kies was shown. i then moved that to mass storage (before your post above) and on explorer two new drive letters were created but when clicked they said "please insert a disk...".

i try different usb ports - i have 6 - all with the same result. i then change from mass storage device to "media player" selection on the phone settings.

i get "My Computer\GT-I9000" in explorer - with the card and phone and am able to drill down to the sub directories etc. But this doesnt appear in the list of folders in calibre.

i attach a word doc of the pc explorer screen to demonstrate.

i then do the preferences debug in calkibre and its as before:

obviously the problem seems to be the mass storage option not working properly. i dont know if thats a samsung problem or my pc. but it seems odd that the "media" option shows the phone and then you can go in and look at the sub directories.

i have checked and you can see the files on win explorer and they do open correctly - i have used the SD card files as an example to check.

as i said i dont think this is a calibre problem but i doubt whether my service provider will be able to shed any light on this - i had some problems with GPS and judging on their response to that, i think it would be optimistic to expect anything.
