It does seem like the sort of thing that ought to be included in a manual, doesn't it? My best guess is that they probably discovered it after the manual and such were set (I got the impression that it's ... difficult to get such stuff changed once they've been accepted at a certain level), and decided that making a point of telling us at the Blogger's Day (and having us spread the word) was the next best thing they could do.

Most of that's guess-work.

An other solution to slipperyness, aside from latex gloves would be self adhesive felt. You just cut small patterns to fit you fingers, where you want them, with a simple pair of scissors. You'll find it at Wall-Mart or good craft stores in a wide variety of colors...

I like the leather cover too, but I really wish they'd have one similar, but with zippered edges. Seems like it'd be useful to keep any dust out -- right now I have mine in the tan leather case and it gets to ride in its own special pocket in my purse.
