Hard to average.

Some weeks I have spare time and I read, these days anyway, 1-3 books a week. Some weeks I have no time to read a book. Years ago, I read 3-7 books a week. Technical books take longer. Fiction I zoom through. As an example, when I was 6 years old I was reading 300 page sf novels in 3 hours.

I have read about ten thousand books in my lifetime.

Between 150 and 200. But a lot of these are shorter (200 pages or so).

I have to estimate, probably somewhere between 60 and 90 novel length works.

Prolly somewhere in the neighborhood of 100. A little more or less, depending. Also read a lot of graphic novels, which I count separately. Last year was slow for me, I don't know that I topped 50.

I don't see why not. Number of books read in the year is the number of books you read. Shouldn't matter if it's your first or xth time reading the book.

I read a lot of fanfiction, which is usually measured in word counts. Last week, one of my favorite authors posted a new story that was 190,000 words. I'd count that as a book. Yesterday, another author I like posted a new story that's 8500 words. I don't think I should count that as a book. But if she posts several of them in a series, is that a "book?" And on the other hand, Fictionwise & Smashwords both sell "books" that have less than 5000 words in them.

When my tastes were more settled on mainstream books, I read about 2-5 per week, depending on how much leisure time I had. I read the same amount now, but it's harder to describe.
I don't count the books with less than 25000 words in them... Maybe that's why I only read about 100 per year..

Prior to the agency model, and huge price increases, I read about 1-3 a week. Now I read 2-4 a week. The reason is that I no longer wait for books just from the "big" authors from "big" publishers but have discovered the little and unknown authors and the free books available. Many of these are excellent books. Just as good and sometimes better than the big boys. I download as many as these as I can find that look at all interesting and now have several years of reading waiting for me. I'm one of those people who don't need the latest and greatest book available.

Like the above poster, I have discovered loads of new authors, including the free books, so I am reading so much more than I did do. I am a fast reader but had to limit myself before, otherwise I was buying too many books too quickly, now I can read to my hearts content & loving it!

Depends what I'm up to at the time.
When I'm in reading mode I can do a book a day, maybe more. (One summer, in my college days, I read 100 or so including the bulk of the ERB oevre back-to-back-to-back.)
On the other hand, when a new Elder Scrolls game comes out I can go months with only one or two.

I have a lot of alternate uses for my free time, these days, but in general I think I average fifty books a year, to be conservative.

About 100 for me, but lately I have been reading magazines in Zinio (i.e. not a file on my computer) and some comic books, so I have not been keeping perfect count. For novels, I hit about 90ish last year but that might be lower this year as I have been reading some other stuff, like I said

About 200 novels a year. But I'm not counting professional reading (papers, journals, textbooks, etc.), nor am I counting magazine content.

And that number varies drastically depending on things like business travel (which sends the number waaaay up, due to airport/airplane/hotel-room reading), or dissertation writing (which dropped my novel-reading to 0 for about 8 months), or...

I read just over 50 books last year. Many of them were several books smashed into one title.

I was hoping to keep the same pace this year, but having a new baby and lack of sleep have taken away part of my reading time.

I've been reading the Sherlock Holmes omnibus for the past few months. I think I could have finished it over a month ago if I could stay awake on the train ride home.
