You can use books you bought from Sony bookstore with Nook. I've not seen any bugs yet with 1.3 version.

the bugs have been worked out with the three firmware updates obviously the latest being the v1.3 I just love my Nook and does my wife. It's one of those the more you play with it the more you love it and of course the In store and Lend Me features etc and the wireless downloading of books. Something about click /buy and within seconds its on your Nook without having to hook it up. Also the Free $50 Gift card is a very nice incentive. Don't know when you plan on purchasing your e-reader. I think you'll love it also they do have some of the best fashionista covers as well ![]() Last edited by boswd; 06-12-2010 at 04:26 PM. |

Still thinking
I am starting to narrow it down to Nook or a Pocketbook e-reader. I liked the PB360, but when I saw the 5in. Sony I felt that the screen may be too small in the long run.
OK, so I went on youtube and checked out a few hands on videos for the PB302. Some the screen glare was obvious and others it was not so much. I have also read about the PB602 on this forum being the same as 302 just without glare. Here are my questions: 1) What is the price difference between the PB302, PB602, and Nook? 2) If all I will probably be reading is E-pub and the Nook has access to that in B&N store, google books, and even Sony bookstore compatibility, how does that compare with PB readers? 3) Any trouble with format going to other pay bookstores for PB readers compared to using B&N bookstore for Nook? 4) Does latest PB302 have less glare, is it positional, or do you have to wait for 602? Will 602 come with the 4GB card and leather case like the 302? How much compared to 302? How else will it be different? 5) What bookstore options do I have in the US if I go with PB and not Nook? I was wondering if there are disadvantages if you buy a e-reader not linked to a large bookseller? This is so hard to decide! I don't know if I am overthinking or if this is what most people have gone through when they looked for their e-readers? I just want to make sure that I won't have any trouble reading lots of books on what ever e-reader I decide to buy. Thanks for the great advice so far as I am narrowed down to 2 brands for the most part. I look forward to the answers to my latest questions. |

PB302 is 339$, Nook(plus a free 50$ online gift card) is 259$, I don't think PB602 is out yet. PocketBook 602's only difference from 302 is Wacom screen, so no glare there. You shouldn't buy a PB302, you should wait for 602 because of the glare. PB302 uses the same screen as Sony PRS-600.
With PocketBook you can't use B&N store. Others are fair game. I think you should never buy an eReader without a good eBookstore, whereever you live. Mind you, that's my idea. I live in Istanbul, and I bought Nook mostly for its store. Many of the books are only available in Amazon or B&N with affordable prices. Justin Cronin's The Passage is 9.99$ on B&N, 20$ on Fictionwise, illegaly free on torrent. There are many eBookstores your can use with PB but none of them are as big or well-priced as B&N. Try InkMesh to compare the availability and price of the books you are interested in. Many here says that PB or the like is a lot better, and maybe they are if you look to the hardware. But we are talking about eReaders here. Devices to read, not devices to build a Linux box upon. If you shall be pirating your books go for the PB, but if you are going to buy them the best thing there is is Nook. Last edited by GERGE; 06-13-2010 at 04:28 AM. |

Gerge, the PB602 will not have a Wacom screen, but an antiglare touchscreen from the start, and it has a different design. The PB 603 will feature the Wacom screen.

There is something called VPN
![]() It is very easy to take an U.S. ip if you know how to do it. You may even do it for free. And since B&N doesn't want any credit card info with every purchase, using free VPNs are safe too. B&N says that I can only buy digital content if I have an U.S. or Canada billing address. I bought an address in U.S. from MyUSABox and told my bank to add it to my MasterCard account. You can also register Nook outside North America. Last edited by GERGE; 06-13-2010 at 09:51 AM. |

Bookstore options
OK, I know that B&N is pretty well established as far as buying books in any format (paper or e-ink). That does make the Nook very appealing living in the US. And the fact that I have had the chance to play with it at B&N and Best Buy and compare it with Sony there has had its advantages.
There is something also very appealing about the PB 6inch readers as well, but their bookstore, Bookland, I think? Is not really up and running like Amazn and B&N yet. Based on that, what other ebook stores are out there with reliable formats and current bestsellers that I might be able to use if I go the PB route? When is the PB 602 (less glare) going to be available? And, what does anyone know about the PB601 Revo and its availability and price? Is there anyplace in the US, in CT, where I can play with a PB? One last question, they said that the new Samsung E60 will be affiliated with B&N, does that mean access to B&N books? Anyone have a hands on with it to know how it handles? When will it be released? Also, I really just want to buy books, load them in my portable, easy reader, and read. I don't really want to learn how to remove DRM or really change the ebook formats to get them on my reader. Would I have to do that with a PB? Thanks. |

You can use Sony and Kobo eBookstores with PB. But you will have to buy book with your computer and upload them to the eReader from the computer. You will have to use Adobe Digital Editions to do this. If you buy from B&N or Amazon you will have to remove DRM.
If Samsung E60 will be affiliated with B&N, it means that it will have access to B&N eBookstore. Depending your needs, Kobo might be good for you. I am mostly interested in Science Fiction & Fantasy. In Kobo there are only 500 books while in B&N the number is over 3000. But both have bestsellers with good prices, B&N usually being a dollar or two cheaper. I never used Sony eBookstore, so I don't know anything about it. Both Samsungs will be released in July. And If I'm not wrong, no word yet about Pocketbooks. |

Made a decision
OK, well I made a choice!
![]() ![]() ![]() So I went to her house and picked it up today. It is currently charging, so I did not get to play with it yet, but I will let you know. I have to say that I am still curious about the PB readers, but now that I have a 6 inch and it should work out, I may keep my eye on a 5 inch reader. It seems that collecting ereaders is the trend on this site ![]() Thanks to everyone that responded to my posts, and if anyone hears about any new PB news let me know. I will keep you posted on my journey to reading nirvana with my Nook! ![]() |
