That is an encouraging post, it would be even more so if, in addition to saying they're on track, he'd mentioned the date/time frame they were on track for. The last thing I'd heard from them June/July - is that still the target?

All in all though, I'm looking forward to seeing the specs on the different versions - and the price points!

So they haven't chosen their display yet, they haven't fixed the hardware platform yet, and the SDK isn't ready, but it is only the investors wishes holding up a release date? I don't think so.

Right - and the SDK isn't done because UI isn't finished

Also makes you wonder how much of the PR from them was primarily intended to attract investors.

It sounds like you all hate this company.

Personally, I hope they can pull it off. I like the possibilities and am trying to remain optimistic that we'll see the device soon, at a price that's reasonable, with a reasonable UI that works. Fingers crossed, but I'll wait until initial reviews of the shipping product. No pre-orders for me.

Not really. I'm just always skeptical of companies with grand claims that haven't shipped real products. As I mentioned in another similar thread, the more hype I see without anything to back it up, the more suspicious I get.

It's nothing even against Notion Ink specifically, but anything related to "Pixel Qi" really sets off red flags for me. That particular technology almost has as much of a cult following as Apple. Except that unlike Apple, they have never produced anything.

I hope they're successful, but there have been tons of similar claims by tech companies in the past that never turned into anything concrete. I get excited about a product when I can read reviews and go buy it. The whole PR campaign that tells us how revolutionary something is going to be that doesn't actually exist yet, never really impresses me. Quite the opposite, usually.

Hate? Heh, no. I am simply applying some fairly basic analytical principles which mean they are practically screaming "vapourware".

(I know PixelQi isn't vapourware, but I also know a little more about their tech issues than they have cared to talk about in public, and I seriously detest the OLPC movement)

Like Shaggy and DawnFalcon (sounds like a punk rock band), I don't hate them, in fact if they do get a product and if it does do what their initial specs say (or even come pretty close) I'll probably be in line to get one. Of course by November there will probably be a lot more competition out there as well.
