I'm on a PC.

Generally I had the iPad on and connected via the usb cable, started Calibre and it detected the device and I could 'send to device'. Calibre showed a column titled 'On device' and a green check mark next to any book in my library that was also on the iPad.

However, today I have installed 0.7.1 and now when I start Calibre it detects the device but can't get a list of books on the device or sync with it. Says there is an index out of range error in the driver.

I have tried uninstalling and going back to the previous versions of Calibre and these do not work now either!?

I will keep trying though as I don't want to check the iTunes option and duplicate all my files if I can get away with it..

Yes, I was just replying to a previous post and got a little verbose. I hadn't actually got round to checking if it was an error caused by something I had changed or indeed Calibre itself.

Thanks for the update though.

stustaff and Bluebaize:
ver 0.7.2 will have an improved iPad driver enabling specifying your own storage, rather than requiring you to use iTunes storage.

I'm also working on manually managing sync, which is blazingly fast in OSX and excruciatingly slow in Windows. Go figure.

I'll also update the overview in the calibre forum post.

Look for an update this weekend.

is there a way to disable calibre from trying to access my ipad when i connect up to my mac? i want to use calibre to manage my whole library, but prefer my own methods for choosing books to import over into itunes.

Calibre 0.7.2 is now available with an improved iPad driver.

See this post in the calibre forum for an overview of the implementation changes.
