This doesn't really address the core issue, but it might help some, particularly with non-Connect texts (that is, from somewhere else).

I noticed that the PC's hard drives show up in Connect. I played with that a bit and I think I'm going to put my personal files in sorted directories on one of the hard drives and pull them from there directly to the Reader when I want to use them (without putting them in the Library at all). I'm finding that I don't really want much more than a half-dozen books at one time on the actual Reader, so I think it has potential for my needs, anyway.

When you look at the files on the Hard drive through Connect, all it shows is the actual file name (no meta-data), but that's managable, I've been dealing with it for years, so I already have a system that works for me.

I also played with renaming the encrypted stuff and shifting it around, and it too seems to work fine with this approach, but you're right that it's a pain to manage, melchioe. I think if I start it now while I still only have a few of them, I'll probably be okay.

Perhaps I'll store the files on R/W CD's, then I'll still have something to put on my shelves.

Nathan, How did you see your hard drive in Connect? Was I so blind that I didn't even notice it there? <Actually, that doesn't sound too unlikely, because I automatically use File Explorer to manipulate and find files.>

Also you'll probably want to keep demo and purchased Connect content there, unless you are happy with the defaul location or re-downloading if necessary.

Didn't someone say that the pagination/indexing gets stored in the RTF file? Or maybe in the local version of that file that the Connect software uses to store on the desktop? Don't know if that is true. But if so, one could share those files with a spouse or other Reader owner and not have the first-time delay for each font size while it paginates.

I'm really leaning toward sorting my bought content out onto the HD, or CD or whatever, just to not have to use Connect to keep track of the stuff.

I thought that the pagination is kept in the cache.xml file, but I don't think it matters when Connect will happily paginate the files on the spot when I import them to the Reader.

I'll just put what I'm planning to read "next" on there, and remove stuff I'm finished with as I feel like it.

Nathan, great idea, especially for backup. I had already started a more simple-minded varient of this but I like your idea better. Too bad we can't move books directly to the HD via the connect SW.

Yah, but if it were that easy, anyone could play!

Seriously though, it's a pain, but I've only got 10~12 LRX's to go through and figure out their real names, so I think I can handle that easily enough.

After that, I'll just proc 'em as I get 'em, no big deal. I don't plan to buy large numbers at a time, bundles would be the most at once.
