Etoile, welcome to MobileRead.
Simple answer: I've been too lazy to get rid of the old ones, either selling or gifting them. I got the Cybook 2.5 years ago, it was superseded by the Kindle 2 a little over a year ago, which got replaced as my "just reading" device earlier this year by the iRex DR800SG. The eDGe serves a different purpose than "just reading". |

That's the reason in my case. I've basically got a first generation eInk device, and then bought a new one earlier this year. The screen is better, it's faster, smaller, more memory, etc. It also handles DRM for ePub and PDF where the old one only did Mobipocket DRM. I still use the old one occasionally, mostly if I want to take it somewhere that I would be worried about something happening to the new one. The device technology is still really young, which means that each generation usually has some pretty big improvements. |

The more I use my Nook, the more I realize it's shortcomings. The more I depend on my Nook, the more irritating these shortcomings become: - the superfluous garbage (music? I already have an iPod) - browsing & games? (I already have 3-computers for that), - the missing features (group by series, directories) - the I-want and I-need stuff (edit book titles, delete books directly) - the lousy contents listing - Desktop Stanza can read just about anything you throw at it so why can't the Nook? Your choice of eReader is like your choice of spouse: it might have been sexy looks that gotcha, but it's function that'll keep ya. Well, my T/X is a multifunction device that I read on, but it's LED and I wanted an e-ink reader. The T/X is now a back up reader.

I only have two because the wife wont let me buy a third
![]() If only that were true. I only have one, but if financially (we are single income with kids and Uni expenses) we could afford it I would buy a second, probably a large screen for my Uni work. |

I don't yet, but I soon will.
In my case, it's because my wife quickly appropriated the Kindle and refuses to relinquish it. |

I have a bit of a gadget fetish. It started when I was originally looking at the Kindle (it was the only reader I knew existed.) Then I discovered MR and was able to do some research. That's when I found and fell in love with the Sony 505.
I finally bought my K2 when I could afford it and got tired of paying the premium for LRF files or to convert to LRF files. Then the nook came out and offered the in store connectivity. And I love browsing book stores, so the nook became my love. The Sonys were sold (on this forum!) and a nook was bought. Then the iPad came out....and I wanted an all in one to supplement my digital reading. so, now the nook and the ipad come with me. The missus has taken ownership of the K2. |

I bought an early e-ink reader (Sony 500) then moved to a Cybook because Mobipocket content was a easier to get. Bought another for my wife, then she bought a Sony 505, again for the content, then I put the kindle app on my iPhone (content again) and now I have it on my iPad etc... etc...
The older models aren't worth selling as they're not worth much, and they still have the occasional use e.g. holiday reading in bright sunlight. So yes, it's just a general upgrade process, without the disposal ![]() Pete |

I think I need a 2nd reader for my wife, who keeps stealing mine! She's a teacher, and summer is coming. I might be in trouble soon...
