Well, yes...an author can be both.....but a reader not so much. I love music, many different kinds, but I can't play an instrument to save my life.

Reader here.

I'm an engineer (electrical), so by default, I am not a writer.

Just a reader I guess.

I do write and publish, but just scholarly journal articles, book chapters etc., no novels etc.

As well as some newspaper articles several years a go as I did my undergrad in Journalism and worked at a newspaper for a year or so before changing fields in grad school.

I don't have the creativity/imagination to write fiction.

I've been a reader since I taught myself in the 4th grade, I'd love to be a writer but can't for the life of me keep ideas flowing long enough to finish what I start.

Well, I was thinking I was just a reader, but I do have 2 research articles out there, and one more in the process, so maybe that qualifies me for author material? It's not what I think of when I think author. I think of myself more as a researcher. The research is the main thing there...
