My experiment: With a library using Firstname Surname authors, the author sort generation tweak set to 'invert', Manual management, and 'Use Author Sort' checked: 1. Send a book to my PRS-300. Look at Calibre's device display. Most of the books show as Surname, Firstname, because that is how I normally work. The new book just added shows as Firstname Surname, as it should. 2. Disconnect my 300. The new book is listed under Surname, Firstname. 3. Reconnect. Send another new book. Both books are listed in calibre's device view as Firstname Surname. 4. Disconnect. Both new books are listed under Surname, Firstname. My understanding from your post is that in step 2, you saw Firstname Surname on your Sony. In step 4, you saw Surname, Firstname for the first book, but Firstname Surname for the second book What do you do differently from the steps in my experiment? |

Are the rest of the configuration options the same? (metadata management, the author_sort tweak, etc?) Does this happen every time, or only for books newly added to the library? Apologies for all the questions, but given that I cannot reproduce the behavior on a PRS-300 with calibre 0.7.14, something must be different either in what we do or how calibre is configured. |

It happens everytime No need to apologise, I undertsand how these things go, I have made no changes to my device since this worked as it should, it just came about and I assumed it was a prob with my device, its only seeing another user with a similar prob that made me mention it. I have completely deleted calibre at one point and reset my device to default but to no avail... Not a big deal, I have gotten used to sending a dummy book after every send and then deleting it. |

For example, I have just added 12 books by Anthony Powell (Dance to the Music of Time series), disconnected and all of the series is listed as Anthony Powell, I reconnect, add a dummy book, disconnect and now the original 12 are listed as Powell, Anthony

I found a case where the described behavior would happen, but it requires the author_sort to be empty when the book is sent. I have no idea how that can happen, but perhaps it can.
The next release (today or tomorrow) has a fix. We will see if it actually fixes anything. ![]() |

@superplinio and grizedale: Nighttime ruminations produced another scenario that makes more sense than the one above. If your Sony reader things it is in a timezone different from the one for your computer, then calibre will set the date of the book incorrectly in the Sony db. Result: the sony will 'repair' the entry, getting the information from the epub. This will change the author back to whatever it is in the book, and in passing correct the date. The next time you send a book, calibre will put the author back to author_sort, but without touching the date, so the change sticks this time.
So, my question: do you/have you ever used the Sony Reader SW to talk to your reader? If so, could it be that you last used the Reader SW in a different timezone, or back before the change to summer time? If so, then connecting Sony's SW to your device (doing nothing else) should fix the problem, at least until the winter time shift. Note that I never use Sony's SW, so I cannot say whether allowing it to connect will have other consequences, such as collection modification. If you never intend to use Sony's SW again, then in theory doing a *hard* reset will fix the problem. A hard reset restores the reader to factory defaults, including erasing all content and device authorization. The factory-provided books will be erased and not restored. The procedure for the 300 can be found at http://support.sony-europe.com/compu...n_GB&m=PRS-300. I tried it up to the point where it asked if I was certain. Instructions for the PRS-600 are at this site: http://support.sony-europe.com/compu...n_GB&m=PRS-600 |
