Hi again everyone!
I went over to Borders today to have a look at the Kobo. It does look nice and is easy to operate but I was getting REALLY annoyed every time I turned the page because the screen would flick to black with white writing for about 1.5 seconds before going to the next page. This made it really hard for my eyes to adjust because it wasn't just a quick flash, it was really obvious. If the black text had just vanished and then the new page replaced it I wouldn't have minded as much. Is this typical of eInk readers? |

Calibre will convert any non DRM'ed book. But you can get hold of excellent liberation tools to remove DRM from a purchased ebook if that is your wish. |

I think my next step will be to go to Borders and have a good 15 to 30 minutes play with it - according to some people that I've spoken to, after you've been reading for a while you don't even notice the flash. More updates on the situation (and I'm sure lots more questions) coming soon to a forum near you! Last edited by Katdragon; 05-22-2010 at 10:31 AM. Reason: Spelling errors |

Hi Kat
![]() I researched for months before I finally decided on the PB360 and am really happy with my purchase. I saw the Kobo release and I was so happy to see a cheaper reader in Australia! The PB360 seems to have one of the fastest page turning speeds of all the readers I researched, and initially the black flash was a little annoying, but you get used to it really quickly. It's still quicker than turning a normal page. I just noticed your last post and you said most people don't even notice the flash - I wouldn't go that far, but it's not annoying when you get used to it. Good luck! |

Now I still notice it but no where near as much as initially. Well, I am not certain what to buy my lady wife. I am still leaning towards the Kobo as it is available locally. But my positive experience with my PRS-300 is still swaying me. I may even buy two Kobo's. So I can keep the Sony at home and the Kobo on the go with me. |

I'm also in Australia and I have Nook that I'm very happy with, it's rather easy (for someone with a bit more than basic computer skills) to buy books from B&N and and other source and to strip DRM.
Since software update 1.3 the Nook has been a very nice reader far nicer than the Kobo, but unless you have some bit more than basic computer skills. The Kobo might be easier to get books for and less hassle. If you want to know more about how to get around some of the issues, with buying books from B&N just PM me |

Don't they read right-to-left, bottom-to-top, back-to-front in Australia? It's going to be difficult to find an e-book reader that does that!

I'm going to put in a order for the Kobo when I go into town tomorrow. My brother (who is currently visiting Canada) is going to pick up a Gelaskin for it

I am no expert but it does display ADE and non DRM'ed EPUB books as per link below http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/f...?cds2Pid=30195 But the buy it now and wirelessly DL is the same as the Kindle, being linked to the parent store. Calibre would allow you to get the books you choose to it though. The Kobo though to my mind is a better deal cost and availability wise though. Glad you have gone down that path. I love my little PRS-300 but had to go through a few hoops to obtain one. Adding books via Calibre is a breeze so as far as I am concerned there is no loss of flexibility at all!
