Personally, I don't really understand limiting purchases... but only because I don't really understand why anyone would want to hoard iPads, why anyone would pay black market prices for one, or why Apple would care, since they're still making their money.

Glad the woman got her iPad, though. Apple has no business refusing cash for any purchase, no matter how badly they want to track a product.

Black market sales would happen, but probably not to a huge extent IMO.

The iPad is hard to find around here--my g/f was unable to get one for a friend in another country before leaving for her trip today.

But it's not something like the Nintendo Wii a few years ago that was very tough to find for months. Just a matter of ordering online, or getting on the list at the local Apple store and waiting a couple weeks.

I think most would do that rather than pay more than MSRP--especially since it's not the holiday season where people want it before x-mas etc.

shrug. you can still find them on ebay for over-list prices, and people (mostly outside the US) are still buying them. for some, it's easier and cheaper to pay $100-200 over list than make a trip to the US. remember, while the iPad is being officially released in 18 more countries (last I counted) there are plenty more on my globe than that.

True, and good point on the international market. Anyway, I wasn't saying it didn't happen. Just that it's not some crazy, hot black market item that's being hoarded and sold for 2-3 times MSRP or anything like the hot products around x-mas etc.

Though I do think we would see that if it was around x-mas as people are insane about getting the gifts people want, and the iPad would be one of the (if not the) hot item if it came out in the holiday season.

Other times of the year people are willing to wait--especially when it's only a couple weeks and the economy is still tough for many.

Last I looked, on Amazon, there is about a 300 dollar premium for all models.
