I ended up paying $208 for a PRS-600 + case. I think it has the right blend of features, flexibility and size for me to use abroad. The main gripe about the PRS 600 seems to be the contrast so if I don't end up having any problem with it, it'd be a great deal for me. Thanks everyone for your valuable input.

I second the jetBook Lite. The EZ Reader does a better job with ePub, but the EZ Reader does not do rtf satisfactorily.
