I still like going to the bookstore and buying a print book now and then. I also check out deals and new books, buy CDs, grab a coffee, buy gift cards and such. I want brick-and-mortar stores to stick around, not only for me, but for my young nieces and nephews. Last edited by Maggie Leung; 05-18-2010 at 12:56 PM. |

There was something similar in the book FlashForward. IIRC you'd go to a bookstore and browse the sample copy and then could buy an e copy or a pod paper copy.

What does this mean though for the current Sony store by Borders? Will that change to just the Sony store? Anybody know?

Since they are also supporting multiple dedicated readers, I'm betting that they are simply using ADE.

I have a feeling DRM will go away will it be sooner or later only time will tell. As e-books gain in popularity DRM will become dated as more people will want to have as many choices as possible. The prices of e-readers will drop just like mp3 players did in the past. Also more sellers will get in the game forcing newer strategies to be made as well as newer formats. I hope this move will encourage more e-book sellers to do the same in the future.

If the Borders.com store will follow the same format as the australian borders it will just be ADE. They do offer their own app for on the PC on their site (as well as for iPhone, Blackberry, Mac, iPad and Android), but my ADE installation was enough for download.
Sadly their website is horrible and it is really difficult to simply browse. It more or less works if you search for specific books. |

I was wondering when Borders would get into the game. They are the poor guys, but they might end-run BN by supporting more than one ereader in their stores. The Nook is frustrating, in that you can only read BN's high-priced stuff on it.

Has anyone outside Australia tried the Australian Borders store?
But - if you're impatient, why not use the Kobo Books site? I'm assuming the Borders store in the US will just be a combination of Kobo and Sony stock... |

ePub works on the Nook. I've had my Nook for 3 weeks and checked out 3 eBooks from my local library's digital service for free. Barnes and Noble also has lots of the Project Gutenberg books integrated with their catalog -- all for free. B&N also has a promotion going right now for a different free book each week -- last week's book was Lee Child's "One Shot". I've bought one book for my Nook, Lee Child's latest, 61 Hours, for the same price I would've paid at Amazon. My experience with the Nook is that there is plenty of free and inexpensive content available for the Nook.
