Due to the geo restrictions I have to buy from where I can. But I am using the library more and more and it seems Smashword is my favorite atm. Love all the books of authors I hadn't heard of before - and the books don't cost me an arm and a leg.

I have bought the most from Sony, then Fictionwise, then Diesel, then B & N, then Books on Board, then Smashwords, then Kindle and lastly various publisher's. It all depend on the book I want and who has the best price/discount combo. Since my Kindle books are only readible on my Touch, I only purchase what I can't find anywhere else or some of the freebies I find interesting.
My 700 bricked on me so I am down to my trusty 505 and my Nook ( mostly my Nook ) and my Touch. So am not as inclined to purchase from Sony. |

despite trying FW is by far and away my main store .... their gradual geo-restrictiveness, and slow murder of .mobi/.prc, has allowed me to sample other authors in their "multiformat range"....

Whatever site has the book I want at a paperbackish price and will accept my money.
Mostly Waterstones, Books on Board, and fictionwise. Increasingly I'm looking ofr authors to sell their books through their own websites. Although I've not used them the other major UK ebook site is WHSmiths |

Pretty much Amazon and Smashwords, although I did download a freebie from B&N. I think I bought one book from Fictionwise. I'd say over half are from Amazon. I tend to check smashwords first because the author gets a bigger cut, but I admit, sometimes I just one-click...

Still shop mostly at Fictionwise since they are almost always cheaper with the discounts and rebates and sometimes half the cost of other stores, but that is tougher now that they have lost the agency pricing publishers. I'm finding the Public Library is becoming a bigger source for my books though. Free and has many of the major new releases.

I used to buy all my books from Fictionswise, but that changed with Geo restrictions...
Since I found this site and now have a kindle, I get most of my books from Smashwords and Amazon, in that order. I'm somewhat disappointed, when authors upload to Smashwords that they don't include the kindle format... Maybe they don't know, that people from outside USA pay an extra $2, and therefore find that format irrelevant? |

Baen, Baen, Baen all the way!
I bought two books from Fictionwise that were DRMed (I really really wanted them). I own an ebookwise 1150, but broke the screen on it and when I asked if I could have the books in a different format because I was considering an e-ink reader, I was told that I would have to buy the books again. That was the last of my purchases at Fictionwise or any other DRMed store. If I can't have it DRM-free so I can convert it and load it onto my current e-reader, I consider if I really really want it after all (in most cases the answer is NO) and if so, I'll get a PB. Otherwise, Baen, Baen, Baen! |

Back in the days when I had the Rocket eBook and an IPAQ, the only places you could buy from were Powells, B&N, eReader, Fictionwise and individual websites.
The joy of having an iPhone is that you can run so many different readers on it. Therefore, it really now just depends on what I want and where I can get it. If I'm buying from an independent publisher, however, then it's a totally different story. Whenever possible, I try to buy directly from the pub themselves. This allows more money to go back to the publisher and author, instead of having to pay middlemen. Although we do sell through a LOT of retailers, and the majority of our sales happen on Smashwords and Amazon, I'm still grateful when somebody buys through our site. It really DOES make a huge difference. Best, Jay Hartman Editor-In-Chief Untreed Reads Publishing http://www.untreedreads.com |

I mostly buy from B&N, but buy from Kobo, Sony, or Books on Board if their price is lower (when I want to buy an ebook, I always compare prices with Inkmesh first). I'll buy from Fictionwise if the book is available in epub and it's cheaper/has a good rebate... but since their prices have been going up, they don't have epub available for a lot of books (PDF is not an adequate substitute), and they're missing a lot of books I want, I hardly ever check there anymore. If I want something published by Webscriptions or Baen, I'll buy it directly from their respective sites, but they don't publish most of the books I want.
I would love to get ebooks from the public library, but not only does my local library not have ebooks, no library in my entire state does. |

I've been buying from Waterstones lately. I'm taking advantage of the pound losing value in relation to the dollar. I often find books there for 8 to 9 dollars where they would be 12 if I bought them from a US site.

If I am actually looking for something specific, I always try to check Inkmesh first to see who has the best price. I actually found one book (I don`t remember the specific book - so don`t ask please), on Inkmesh that had listings on about 14 sites ranging from $Free to about $15.00. Guess which one I picked?
However, I usually end up back at Smashwords, most of the time, great prices and great selection for my tastes. |
