Someone on the French forum said that you can purchase restricted books on Books on Board if you use gift certificates. You will have to provide a valid U.S. address though (at least valid postal code). You can just buy the gift certificate and use it yourself. I haven't tried it myself and I don't know how long it will work...

Borders Australia is launching their eBooks platform and e-reader on May 19 according to Nate's Blog. Maybe you'll be able to get it from them?

Do what I do: buy another print copy and give it away to a public library. Then download the ebook version from the darknet.
This achieves several things:

This may not be a geographical issue: HarperCollins' websites weren't selling any new books last time I looked; maybe this not being able to buy Tolkien books is happening to Americans too..
Oh, one thing: the epubreader plugin for Firefox interferes with the Waterstones epub download, and must be disabled. Last edited by AprilHare; 05-08-2010 at 02:14 AM. Reason: moar |

Finally scratched that itch
![]() Waterstones sold me The Hobbit just fine, thank you very much, for £5.26. Now why can't HarperCollins make things easier and let me buy in my own currency? |

With Australian address and IP address? If so, good for them. Pretty good price, as well!
