The 2.5 update has inexplicably enabled web browsing for me in the UK, and I hope it's not a mistake.

I just got my pre owned K2, its on version 2.3.2, I have full internet access in the UK.

The Amazon site still warns of limited access - wiki - in the UK.

Wireless access in Hong Kong

Here is John Sang from Hong Kong of China. Wireless access is o.k. here, 3G usual, EDGE sometimes. No additional $ charge so far.

However, I turned the wireless off as default to save battery life.

Regards,

Wireless access in Poland

First of all hi everyone!
Few days ago I bought a used Kindle 2i and happily report unlimited Internet access works here as well (so probably it works everywhere on the world now).
Waiting for 2.5

My opinion -- FWIW.

Buy it as a book reader not a web browser. Then you can be pleasantly surprised that you can get web access for free (in some contries) in a pinch. I used it that way a couple of times when I was on vacation in a strange city.

However, if you buy it because it can browse the web, you are likely to be disappointed. 1) as mentioned previously, e-ink does not make a good web browsing experience. 2) Will it stay free forever? Unless things have changed, Amazon calls it an 'experimental' feature that is free. Compare this to the iPad that charges $30 per month for unlimited browsing. Amazon obviously doesn't expect you to browse much or they couldn't afford to throw this in for free. The problem is that if a lot of people try to use it as a web browser, then Amazon's costs may go up too much. In this case look for them to end this free experiment.

I'd really look towards other features to make your purchase decision and include this as a nice little bonus, not as a primary decision factor. Now, text-to-speech, that is a real advantage in my book [grin].
