This has to be the worst implementation of mobile Adobe Digital Editions in the wild. Adobe presumably regards embedded fonts as "optional", since they approved the release of this shoddy implementation.
Note that Astak is having a sale, see Mother's Day Blowout on all EZ Readers. These are good value for the money. The Sony Readers (PRS-300 and PRS-600) have very old versions of mobile Adobe Digital Editions, but they are better than Kobo's current implementation. Both EZ Reader's and Sony Reader's have good font handling capability. The only serious issue I am aware of (probably on all current mobile ADE implementations) is that the Table of Contents uses a system font and so can't display some languages. |

I would love to see this resolved as well. I tried to open an ePub in Czech language and I got question marks instead of some characters as well... PDF works fine with these characters but Epub is much easier to navigate through in Kobo....
I hope this is fixed in the next firmware... |

But such a huge market...
If the external font solution works that'll be great too ![]() |

The funny thing is that I downloaded a news feed from Calibre and although the articles themselves did not display all Eastern European characters properly, the table of contents did! Why is that?

Unfortunately you cannot today as near as I can tell. When they support external fonts at some point then you could, but not today. Kobo is a very cheap reader and they have limited what it can do for whatever reason.

It seems the Kobo supports embedded fonts in epubs.
If you rename the epub to zip, you can see how he did it: Pointing at the fonts through a .css stylesheet. |

Can someone please test this chinese epub?
EDIT: THE EPUB DID NOT WORK. It uses Semp's method of embedding fonts. Last edited by chalimac; 05-07-2010 at 06:34 PM. |
