I've been meaning to play around with Calibre and convert some of my Google Books ePub files to Mobi but I haven't gotten around to it yet. So many eReaders, so little time....
Almost everything i have is in PDF.So if i transfer everything from PC to Kindle ,would the Kindle read that?Thats the only question that concerns me

Yes the kindle can read PDF's so long as they are not password protected.

And at the end of May (hopefully sooner) they are releasing a software update that will improve the experience of PDF's on the Kindle. Right now, if you rotate the Kindle's screen, it will do a small zoom, but in the incoming update, you'll zoom into PDFs at several different percentages and pan around to easily view small print and detailed tables or graphics.

You can buy books for the kindle many places... If you can't get prc/mobi format, you can convert via Calibre...

You're very far from being locked in to Amazon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to pay some sort of fee to bring files into the Kindle? Files being anything not bought on Amazon.

I also heard that you have to mail such files to Amazon, and after they give the green light, they will mail it to your device. Is that true?

As for the OP. It seems like the Kindle might do all you're asking for, but I am still wary, it doesn't seem as flexible and open as other readers out there. And from what I gather... your library is not obtained from any official sources.

I think if you can forget the small glare in the PRS-600, it'd be the best choice for you.

Exactly! Most of the books are obtained from unofficial sources. It means I have
many expensive books for which i paid no penny. So,I need reader that ll
set no limitations, meaning that I can transfer most of my books from PC to the
reader and read as much as I like. If kindle makes problem with that I dont dream buying it.

Kore, Im sure that many of you have interest in ur favoring of some readers, but
all of us who dont have too much money to experiment want to make the right
choice,and I told u what concerns me with PRS600.

If u know any other sony reader that has clear screen and features I like then i ll be happy to know.

Thanx!

False.
Kindle connects to PC via USB and appears as a standard disk drive under Windows and Mac.
All you do is drag-and-drop files onto the appropriate Folders and you're good to go.
Unlike other brands that will go unmentioned you do NOT need any special software.

The only time Amazon charges you to put files on your Kindle is if you email them via their Whispernet wireless connection instead of using USB. And its a straight bandwidth charge. Nothing nefarious.

You know, the Kindle manual is freely available at Amazon;

http://kindle.s3.amazonaws.com/Kindl...s_Guide_v3.pdf

...no need to spread misinformation.

As for how Sony does things:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod....pl?mdl=PRS600

Hearsay is no substitute for reading the actual manual, guys.
Next!

Slammed!

Wow, that was brutal. You are a cold, cold man.

Out of curiosity, how come you chose the BeBook over the Kindle?
