Don't just read it off yourself.. You'll end up feeling alone. Get by with a little help from your friends. Enjoy their company.

Anyways, hope you'll eventually be ok.

Also, anything by Jen Lancaster (Bitter is the New Black, Bright Lights Big Ass, Such a Pretty Fat...). She has a great narrative voice, she's screamingly funny, and her books are always good for a lift.

While not the right time, I also recommend "Reproduction is the Flaw of Love" by Lauren Grodstein. It's an interesting meditation on relationships, why we stay with people and the ways in which each relationship informs the future ones. Maybe something to read when there's a bit of time and distance.

"Women Who Love Too Much" By Robin Norwood. This is great for boosting your confidence and thinking "he was a to$$er anyway!".

"Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway": Susan Jeffers. Lots of us become institutionalised in relationships and get scared of living alone etc. Although this isn't a relationship book, it's great for building confidence generally.

"The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall" by Anne Bronte. This might be available on MR. I found this comforting many years ago when a relationship ended. I've forgotten most of the details, but remember identifying with the main character. This is worth reading, in spite of being written in a different era.

Sorry. I've just read the post where you say it's not a question of lack of love, but situational. The Susan Jeffers book would be of help.

I found myself in a similar situation when I and a live-in boyfriend had to split due to going to separate uni's. Lots of tears and making new friends helped me. I'd suggest keeping away from romance novels and going for thrillers and comedies, depending on taste. Perhaps classics such as Dickens, Victor Hugo (The Hunchback) or Fielding's Tom Jones.

Perhaps some tragic romance? Sometimes reading a tragedy can make you feel better. You can wallow in someone else's misery rather than your own.

The #1 Ladies Detective Agency books by Alexander McCall Smith always make me feel good. The main character is a strong woman and they are both heartwarming and funny. The mysteries are very mild, the stories are more about Mme. Precious Ramotswe and her friends and family. Also, for laugh out loud funny try the Southern Sisters mystery series by Anne George. The Stephanie Plum books mentioned above are also great and should lift her spirits. In another vein she could try Persuasion by Jane Austen. It's the classic story of true love finally working out over all obstacles. Other great Austen titles are Emma and Pride and Prejudice. Emma in particular is very humorous.
