My mom goes through hundreds of audio books, mostly mysteries. Here's a few more authors from her list.

Sue Henry (mysteries set in Alaska)
Steven F Havill (set in Arizona)
bunches of cat mysteries, including Rita Mae Brown, and Lillian Jackson Braun, and Shirley Rousseau Murphy
Carolyn Hart
Dorothy Gillman (Mrs Pollifax series)

OF course, go for the classics, Agatha Christie, Ed McBain, Robert Parker, John D. MacDonald, Ngaio Marsh, etc.

Two places I look (since Mom doesn't see well, I do a lot of ordering from the Library for her). I looked up historical winners of the Edgar awards for excellence in mystery writing. Also, Look up authors she likes at amazon, then check what books get listed in various "also bought" and listmania. My problem is that many of these don't get made into audio books, so I'm always looking for new stuff for her - there are many of her old favorites that have never been done in commercial audio versions.

+1 Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus series by Faye Kellerman
+1 Women's Mystery Club series/James Patterson
Harry Bosch series/Michael Connelly
Inspector Rebus series/Ian Rankin
Inspector Wexford series/Ruth Rendell (very popular in UK, older detective, set in 'traditional' small town in Southern England, but facing modern issues intruding).
