Buggins (Vadim Lopatin) is the author of CoolReader, and he is the one putting out the experimental builds that are usually based on the Lbook firmware. Sometimes the CoolReader builds are based on the Hanlin factory firmware, but those are still pretty buggy. As far as the PocketPRO is concerned the 0513 drop from Buggins is probably the best available right now. As jusmee mentioned, the later PocketPRO builds are battery killers, and also have some USB problems. For the 6" EZReader the 0603 drop from Buggins is, IMHO, the best, and that one opens EPUB in CoolReader with just a long press on the selection key. The 0513 PocketPRO firmware from Buggins still requires the renaming trick to get CoolReader to open EPUB files.

oh bummer...one click for epub without renaming would have been really convenient... i guess i'll just have to wait and see. for explaining this so thoroughly

You are welcome.

I think the one click EPUB selection is probably coming to the Lbook firmware for Hanlin V5 (PocketPRO), but the 6" software has been around longer and was probably the easiest to try this feature out on first. That is just my guess though.
