enTourage sells eDGe at 499$ through its website.

I believe the product is shipped only to USA and Canada and I don't think retailer stores carry eDGe. So you may have to get one delivered to the place you are staying in US, if you decide to get one.

I'm certainly not an expert, but the best results for reading PDFs often seem to be achieved when you use a device that's close to the machine that was used to create it in the first place. That probably means some kind of computer, rather than something that's primary designed for reading regular books.

Other e-reader devices that I've tried do fine with straight text but less and less well as the degree of complexity goes up. Many technical documents also do need a decent sized screen to work well with some content. The other advantage of using some of the tablet PCs is that you can instal your own choice of software. You have a better chance of it catering for your specific needs if you can run the right program, depending on the work you want to do with it.

The Edge looks promising, but there are a number of other tablet style computers that are either available now or supposedly 'coming soon'. So the ideal device may still be not be on the shelves yet.

Good luck with the hunt.

Yuppie! Prize is not that bad.

I will show this to my friend and see if he likes the idea of that object.

My remaining perplexity is that it is the first issue. An object like this has to last for at least 3 years, while new models with less kinks pop up to poison one's blood.

Thanks. You have been most helpful. You obviously like the monster.

Exactly my feelings. But ...
If I can give to my friend something that is useful to him I will score many points.

Absolutely. I liked that show! Beautiful Brooklinese! You have great retrieval ability!

The mixing of the worlds, just makes a huge mess. Are you familiar with the entropy concept, either in thermodynamics or in information coding? Very difficult to reverse. I takes a miracle.

I think it is an unavoidable risk with all gadgets. The main question is whether the gadget (as it is) serves the functions users need. Of course, I can think of several features that will make eDGe a better machine but this one works surprisingly well in terms of handling PDF files even though it has some quirks.

This machine serves the purpose that I got and it looks alright even thought it is not an iPad.

Anyway, hope your friend find the machine that satisfy his/her needs whether it is eDGe or another.
