I'm stuck in bed for the next month and a half otherwise I'd have an iPad. I see the Vermont Green Mountains from my house...

I know! That's why I'm so crossed with Apple's change of plans. My friends are my venerable age and have strenuous careers. None of them will take half a day off for something so trivial. I can wait. I'm patient. But I have the time NOW to use the iPad that I won't have in two months. That is frustrating...

I live in Halifax, and I'm very tempted to drive to Maine and get one. I called a Boston Apple Store yesterday, and they said they had a few 8 Gigs and 64 Gigs in stock, but couldn't hold one for me, if I hopped in the car and drove there this weeken....So instead, I'm wasting way too much time trying to scratch the itch by reading reviews online.....This is way worse than waiting for Christmas as a kid

Note that the day after Apple announced that the European iPads would be delayed, Israel began turning iPads back at their borders. Apparently the iPad's wifi signals are stronger than they should be under Israeli standards. So, they announced they would not allow the iPad to be sold in Israel and have even been reported as confiscating them from tourists. Now, after Googling a little, I found that the Israeli wifi standards are also used by various European countries. When Apple announced that the international iPads would be delayed their official press release attributed that to the at-home demand level and sales. However, I would hazard a guess that when the international iPads debut they will have a completely different wifi transmitter section.

actually it won't be a different transmitter. they'll just restrict the broadcast power. you can do that in software, not a big deal.

I guess it could be a big deal if the wifi issues that some people had were in any way related to low strength signals as they would obviously be more widespread on an eu version with reduced wifi strength.

Delay sucks for those that do want the 3G model though. But makes sense if that's the reason, as they're goal is to sell as many as possible, and maybe they're seeing demand for WiFi units currently being larger than preorders for 3G models etc.

To answer the question if the 3G model was delayed to satisfy the WiFi model only demand - the answer is "No". I just received a notice from Apple this morning that my 3G model will be shipped out late April as originally promised.

I was told by the Apple guy at Best Buy that the 3G version has to be approved by the FCC and that's why there was no exact date for the late April release yet.
