The nexus one is useful to google in far more ways than simply sales figures, it gave them an enticing product to start their direct selling, it replaced the previous developer phone which was something fairly old by that point, it raised the bar for os version and specs so you see less low-end 1.5/1.6 android phones out there now and it gained attention to both google and the android os. As time goes by and they release more hardware then it seems likely that their sales expectations will increase, but while they so clearly benefit from having many companies making android phones it would be somewhat foolish to try and hurt them by heavily pushing the nexus one. |

Unfortunately, other than HTC, I am not sure the rest of the phone makers have been a great credit to Android. But I am hoping this will change as the platform matures. On the other hand, there are no large players currently in the Android tablet arena. Maybe Google will not have the same qualms there. I am really hoping for something good, addressing what I see as the major shortcomings of the iPad. |

I would hazard a guess that motorola in particular would tend to take offence at your dismissal of them.
![]() It would be good if google publically took a more active role in improving android for tablets since on every site for one of these forthcoming targets its all about custom this or that, the marketplace doesn't work with large screen devices and so on. |

The rumors I've heard (for what little rumors are worth) is that it'll be Android based.
Considering what I'm hearing about restrictions with Apple's SDK, delays in releasing apps, clashes with Adobe etc., I'm reasonably certain a GooTablet will be more open. Whether that results in a superior product, I'm not 100% sure. Especially after using a Droid phone for a week or so. ![]() |

Can't say I'm excited but it will be interesting to see how it works out for them.
