Glad to hear the smaller 300 screen isn't a big factor for many. My PRS 500 was taken from my car, picked up the 300 for under $150 off ebay. I imagine I will be flipping pages a bit more often, but not a big deal.

Stick with the 505. That would be your best option.

I have bought and tried 3 Sony's... The 300 was the best experience of them all. Best screen, best size and just best overall. Of course this was my experience and my opinion. The 300 is a very nice unit if you don't expect the unit to make you coffee in the morning.

Another good portable choice is the iPhone or iPod touch. I think the ipod touch is a little less than the cost of a 300 and well worth the price. But I recommend you keep your 505 for when you want to read at home on a larger screen. Having said all that, I love my 300 and it is a great reader. But like others warned, please don't put it in your pocket as sooner or later you will mess it up. Last edited by jswinden; 04-12-2010 at 10:43 AM. |

My preference would be to just re-work my wardrobe to have pockets sufficiently large enough for the PRS-505 --- I've a number of shirts from www.travelsmith.com w/ a pocket perfectly sized for the 505 (unfortunately they've since changed the shirt style to have smaller pockets ::grr:

I flew last night from Atlanta to Paris and had my 300 with me. The lighting on Delta's planes is pretty sufficient so I removed it from the Sony leatherette cover with the goose neck light. It fits perfect is the palm of my hand. The small size, light weight and awesome screen was all so comfortable to me and I really enjoyed it. I have thought a few times about returning it and going with the iPad, but I just can bring myself to do it. Despite the newness and raving reviews, I think I should wait it out. Not to mention for reading books on a device (which is why we are all here right?) the Sony PRS-300 brings a no nonsense solution to the table (no glare or touch screen finger prints), but allows someone on the go to read what ever they choose to take with them. With prices now a days on the 300 a deal is sure to be had by anyone that wants a great reader. Mine is a mainstay for now. I enjoy my Macbook too much to be adding another Apple thingie to my collection.

I'm keeping my 505 because it's hackable and prs+ adds folders and other features that are nice. The device itself is more sturdy than the plastic 300.
I am thinking of picking up an IPAD for tech pdf's , so if you are thinking of getting another ereader the Itouch or IPAD are two directions to go in that give you Multiple Purpose device bigger and smaller than the 505. The 300 is not hackable yet and might never be, but the 505 already is and has a loyal following. Last edited by richman; 04-13-2010 at 09:07 PM. |

I picked up a 300 early last fall (after using a 505 for 1.5 years or so) and haven't gone back to my 505. Love the 505 and found no real change in reading experience on the 300. And you CAN pocket it very easily--I do all the time. The screen size is not that different: 5/6 the characters per line, 5/6 the lines per page compared with the 505 for the same ebook.
As someone else mentioned, a smartphone is NOTHING like an ebook reader w/e-ink screen. And the 300 screen is MUCH closer to the 505 than to a smartphone! Probably don't need to convince you of anything here. To correct richman above, the 300 most certainly IS hackable. Mine has the clock display, is russified, has the 7/8 buttons for page turns and 5/6 buttons for history. VERY convenient. I also think the 300 is sturdier than the 505, which feels relatively large and thin. The slightly smaller dimensions/screen of the 300 at about the same thickness (maybe 1/16" thicker?) makes it feel more solid. And it is made of metal with an internal frame, doesn't flex at all. (The 505 has a slight flex.) The plastic scuff guard strip around the edge of the 300 is a nice touch imo. Last edited by DrMoze; 04-16-2010 at 10:57 PM. |

I think the 300 is hackable too. I think there's allready the russification hack, and Kartu may port PRS+ later for the 300 too.
The russification is also available for the 600 and 900. |

Keep the 505! I've only had mine for a couple of days and I LOVE it!
