Are there any chances that some other manufacturer will release an usable cover?
I'm already thinking of doing it myself with leather + glue + velcro it is sad that iRex didn't think well about cover when making the device, compare this two 1mm deep holes on DR800 with a large cover connector on PRS500's back; also i doubt there was any technical reasons for not to embed some iron/magnetic stuff on the edge of the case so that covers with magnetic locks would work (again, compare it to PRS500)...

The mounting holes on the DR800 seem to work just fine with iRex's cover. I haven't had any problems with it not being secure enough. Functionally, the iRex leather cover works very well. The two issues with it are the price and color options.

I'm not sure why M-Edge opted to design their cover to use straps instead of the same pin-mount system that the DR800 already has.

And how iRex's cover does close, how does it holds in closed position? PRS500 uses magnetic locks; M-Edge uses another strap, and i can't understand what does iRex's cover uses.
PRS500 was great in that it could be used single-handed in a squash in subway - open the cover, flip the pages, close the cover, anything...
It seems that one should calmly use both their hands to both open and close that M-Edge cover; and i don't want even to speak about that "protective sleeve" DR800SG came with.

OK I took a chance and cut off the lower left corner strap, planning on using Velcro or double sided tape to hold the unit in place. But it is working fine with just the 3 corners holding it in, it is surprisingly stable this way. I used an exacto knife and carefully sliced just above the stitching. Looks good too.

I may still put something extra to hold it in place but at least now I have full access to the power switch.

I did the same as CoolDragon, but taller and all the way across from stitches to stitches (without getting too close and compromising them). What's left is plenty strong enough to hold that corner and it's now easy to access the switch.

I'm planning to buy the cover, and since it's so wide, I would like the e-luminator, which is not in stock. Are the e-luminators for the other readers compatible with the DR800 cover?

later edit: yes, it's compatible with the Classic one, as show here: http://findebookreaders.com/blog/201...klight-review/

There are different models/formats of the jackets for the DR800. I bought the M-Edge cover for my DR800SG from Amazon.com, and I have no issues at all with having access to either the power switch or power connector. I have the "M-Edge Latitude Jacket for IREX DR800, Black", and it holds the device securely, comfortably and has access to everything. It does have the extra space for the light, but I did not need that, and the only complaint I have is that the pen for the Wacom is stored on the outside of the jacket. It even has a front zippered pocket you can store the USB cable in. I cut and fitted a piece of hard plastic, and placed it in the front pocket to add extra protection for the screen. I'm very happy with it.

I bought the leather cover from M Edge and had it delivered to the UK. Deliverycost almost as much as the item itself.

They are out of black and brown and have only purple left; the model is being discontinued.

Unfortunately I had not seen this thread yet. Agree that this cover could not be custom made for the DR 800, or they would not have put straps where they obscure the power button. I just made a hole in the leather like others in the thread. Ugly!

Can't believe there is no decent cover for this product yet!

The company tells me that the model has been discontinued. Some leftover stock exists, but only in purple. Too bad, despite the design flaw, there are few other choices. Or are there? Does anyone know of a nice looking, preferably leather, cover for the DS800? Anyone want to see their M-edge Brown cover?

Odette, I checked the German, Dutch and British shops and there are no nice covers there either.
That's why I ordered from the US even though I'm in the EU, really bad economy.

Irex Netherlands sells a white leather cover, but honestly WHITE leather???!! Flashback to the 1985.... Maybe they should start selling balloon skirts too... and as everyone knows, pale leather quickly looks dirty and is very hard to clean.

I hope they come up with something like their new yorker cover. I like the look of that one, just needs a stylus pocket.

It's true Martienne, seems no nice covers, unless one likes the nylon look of the M-Edge Lattitude...I don't. More importantly, let's face it, the Irex is a marginal product, meaning that things like accessories, apps, and (gulp!) support, will be hard to find. It is that larger question, together with lack of a useable annotation feature, that is making me think of returning the Irex, pretty as it is.

I understand you feeling... I am sticking with mine although I must say it is very clunky in the software implementation.
The lack of accessories is really frustrating; it's a rare thing these days when you want something, are prepared to pay for it but can not find it!

I did some research when I first decided I wanted an eReader -- and I decided this was the one I wanted. It has some good things going for it and the firmware can only get better....

There is a thread by a guy who bought a black leather cover from China. Apart from the fact that the cut is too business like (this is pleasure not work) it looks perfect from his pictures! I wish they did that in some brown, pale or coloured leather.
And the website advises that they are out of stock!!

Do NOT order the cover from Mobile Edge; apart from the design flaws it is also much larger horizontally than it needs to be....

This must be what they felt like in Eastern Europe back in the 80s when they were forever waiting for products to buy to become available!!
