Do you have USBnetworking or a terminal program installed?

If so, you can use standard linux commands to set the date
for the SW and HW clocks.

Maybe I downloaded the wrong file for the DXG. That was indeed my first thought as I've used the USBnetworking 1st about 12 years ago on a handheld games device.

The bin would not be recognised by update on the Kindle DXG. The fonts and screensaver bin files worked.

I've personally verified the friend's Amazon account. The DXG was removed by menu.

So anyway, it's not registered at all and not reported or blacklisted.

The B008 Kindle Keyboard only has feature to set the time, not date. Also that's only available when registered. I thought it had died, but it's just the stupid Kindles run the battery flat in the drawer. I only use it for tests. It's FW 3.4.3 and needs to occasionally connect to WiFi if the date is out by more than a day.
My G090 PW3 also only can set the time on the user interface, FW 5.12.2

I've not tried the ;st YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM command on the 6" keyboard or PW3, in case it breaks something! They are both WiFi only. The DXG is 3G only.

So which usb . bin file works with a DXG, though maybe the serial console is simpler as I have HW (is it 5V or 3.3V, I have both) and did years ago have the cover open. Though I think I saw two sets of serial port files. I did see an instructable somewhere, so I can connect to the correct set.

Or am I doing the ;st YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM command wrong?

I've never installed KTerm (or whatever it is called) because why bother. But if I were in your situation and could not get USB networking going, a terminal program would be my first choice. (I have also never got around to JB my DXG.)

@ j.p.s.
Do I just connect up the TX, RX and OV to the three pads and it works?
Any link here?
3.3V or 5V?

As an aside when making a parallel port to JTAG bit banged adaptor, I realised the ANCIENT original LS TTL works on the 0 to 3.3V logic in, and most gates only have about 2.75V as logic 1 out, so I used a suitable LS TTL as a level shifter, as the Centronics Parallel port was about 4.8V for a logic 1. I was then able to change the boot loader on a Samsung SC6400 evaluation kit to swap the Windows CE for ARM Debian (11 years ago!)

But I have various RS232 and some USB to "TTL" serial adaptors.

Seems mad there is no way to set the date on the GUI (though maybe the wiki instructions don't apply to B009 as the 411 and 611 only work direct in the settings page, without any search box, and it's ignoring date & time on the 3G, though can access the Amazon Kindle Shop.

What is Kterm?

I've never used a kindle serial port.

KTerm is a terminal program for the kindle that can be installed after a JB. It allows you to type linux commands with the kindle keyboard, which is HW KB on a DXG. Seems way easier to me than fiddling with serial port.

If you want to get a console via the serial port, someone else will need to help.

Certainly the ;dm command works, but ~help doesn't
I tried ~help on the B008 Kindle Keyboard and it popped up a list of commands.

Here is part of the B009 DXG log with several attempts at ;st

Installing any terminal seems to need the USB networking installed first, if you have the USB networking, then you already can set the date (if it can be set) and no other package is needed. Except the USB package won't install.

The situation is messier than I thought.

There are several terminals listed at:
https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/DX(...elopment_Tools
but as you write below, for some reason they are marked as requiring USB networking. I guess they are intended for connecting to a remote computer. I was sure there was a terminal program for local shells on kindles.

I am sorry UN won't install for you. Not giving me a good feeling about giving JB a whirl on my DXG.

The JB was fine, fonts lovely, nice having cover screensaver.

The reason that the various programs need the USB networking is that it's used to access the normally inaccessible parts of the filesystem where the files have to be copied to!

GOOD NEWS.

It fixed itself!
I thought it OUGHT to get the 3G time (which BTW uses GPS receivers at each mast to save a bit on Atomic clocks, as do DAB & DTT transmitters, very foolish single point of failure) as it certainly could access Kindle Store.

Anyway I copied on about 30 books using Calibre and kept the "Wireless" on every time I woke it yesterday and today.

I noticed just a short while ago that hitting Menu now gave local GMT. So I tried registering and it worked. It also automatically created the collections on my PW3. I wish Amazon would ASK! Not everyone wants Sync.

Four pages of empty collections (as most of my books are from Gutenberg, or unpublished work I proof!).

Oddly it AUTOMATICALLY has my old device name! ALSO the old send to Kindle address for THAT Kindle. So Amazon simply hides the details when you deregister and restores them when you re-register the same device. It makes sense as you might do it by mistake.

Even registered there is nowhere in the GUI to even set local time as there is with the B008 Keyboard FW: 3.4.3

In future I'll loan my Kobo Touch or Nook Simple Touch, something which can't be blacklisted nor needs to be deregistered.

So now we know, the Certs appear as if they are not installed if time is badly wrong and if it's on the 3G (or probably WiFi on other models) LONG ENOUGH, the date & time eventually (midnight device time on 2nd day?) fixes its self.

Also Amazon support are clueless.

I've only ever installed the RNDIS on XP for host end of USB networking and now for two years+ exclusively using Linux. So I was actually relieved I didn't manage to install the USBnetworking on the DXG.
The actual JB is simple as is the font hack and screensaver hack (add empty file called cover to have a Kobo style sleep cover from current book). The actual 1st JB load seems to fail (deliberate) as it's only to install keys, I think. The other two hack give "Success".

The only thing I can think of is that how long it takes to correct the time might depend on how far off the time is.

For example, NTP tries to avoid jams and will slew, unless that will take "too long", in which case it will reluctantly jam. But if the jam amount is "too large", it gets suspicious and tries to figure some way to trust the reference time. In the case of decades it might take a long time.

Maybe the best advive for old cellular only kindles is to plug it into a chager and leave wireless on for a long time.

I must admit not understanding why, once jailbroken, some terminal application can not be intalled that will give access to the entire file system. I think on old kindles, the built in web browser cat read text files anywhere in the system. (That hole was plugged some time ago, but I don't know if it ever was on the DX.)
