Right, there seems to be a lot of "book gap" (until the 3rd) going on, even where agreements have been signed.

And yea, Penguin and Macmillian (ironically) still don't though.

Well, it seems some of the changes HAVE taken place, at least on the Sony bookstore: I had "Marooned in Realtime", from Vernor Vinge, on my wishlist for about 6 months. The book was one of the first published by that author, but still was on offer for a ridiculous 17.99$. Today, it was 9.99$. It is published by Tor, which belongs to Mac Millan.

I still dislike the new pricing scheme, as I believe it will cost me dearly when I'll be looking to buy newly released novels and because I strongly, very strongly, believe that ebooks should be cheaper than their dead trees counterparts. But still.

So it costs almost half the old price and is two-thirds the list price of the print edition. Sounds like the new system is working pretty well.

I just checked a book at random on Amazon. It was Jonathan Kellerman's "Deception". Hardcover price was $16.38. ebook price was $15.50. Less then one dollar savings. Sounds like the new pricing system doesn't work. Guess I'll just get it free from dark net. Way to go publishers.

Well, I was just at Sony looking for Star trek eBooks and guess what? None there. So what the hell is going on? Can anyone give us a straight answer?

They did say it would take a few days, and some books would be missing. Give it a little time.

well interestingly amazon seems to be somewhat ahead of the curve as opposed to fictionwise. I looked for books by brian stableford in hs emortality series. they are still not back at fictionwise . But in the kindle bookstore they are. they are published by macmillan(one of the gang of five). On the kindle webpage there is a line that says the price has been set by the publisher. Same thing for a new book called the lotus eaters by tatiana soli. What is interesting is that on the mobipocket website(owned by amazon) they still have not appeared. Nor on fictionwise or barnes and noble as of this moment. So in sounds like it is a work in progress. I suspect the sticking point for fictionwise is their buywise program- the publishers don't want to allow discounts. what will happen on the mobipocket website is anyone's guess. will amazon abandon it?

In the Formats summary, they also have "--" under "Amazon Price" with the selling price in the "New from" column. So if you don't like the price, then it is very clear who to blame.

we all know it is the publisher who is setting the price point. That wasn't the point of my comment. Rather it was that kindle store has made the transition but other ebook stores have not gotten there..yet

if price was my only issue I would be buying all the paper books I want used through amazon and abe books.

I honestly think that the publishers are still trying to figure out what to do. Just like it used to be first the hardback, then the trade paperback and then mass paperback. The question for them is where does the ebook fit into that.

Like the movies... do you want to pay theater price for first run or wait for the dvd or in my case getting to tv.(I still don't own a dvd player..lol)

What I find annoying is the on-line "bookshelves" that are supposed to hold copies of
ebooks you have purchased, for download. There are still some at eReader.com
(Fictionwise) that can't be downloaded. While I have the original download that I made
when the books were first purchased, the files in those downloads may require an older
creditcard number, that I may no longer have on hand. The normal solution to the issue
of files/ebooks that are unlocked with a forgotten CC#, is to update the CC# on the
eReader site and re-download the book(s).

With this going on, some of the on-line copies are unavailable.

This just underscores the user's need (as a practical consideration) to download and
liberate your purchases, right away.

So, my question would be "Has the changeover finished yet?"

It appears; not today, anyway.

Luck;
Ken
