The iPad is a computer with an OS that has applications which run locally. The JooJoo pad is a dedicated web browsing device only. You can only run web based applications.. it will NOT work if you don't have an Internet connection.

So there is a major difference than just the screen size.

Agreed. I realised that should have been included after I made my post above.

There's also an offline mode for writing emails, which presumably works by allowing you to edit cached web pages.

It will be interesting seeing a detailed review of the JooJoo once it gets into someone's hands, but I can't help feeling it needs to be at least $100 cheaper to succeed in the shadow of the iPad.

I'm amused by this line on the Pandora "Where to buy" page:

Quote:
So we can't give you a definate delivery date yet. It might be October, it might be December. But you CAN be sure we'll do everything to finish it as fast as possible.
Um, would that be next October or December... or the last ones..

Wow, what a deal-killer!

The "always connected" state would also cut into the battery life.

Not a great design or business decision, IMO.

I agree, this is a deal-breaker for me as well. I don't need an "always connected" device, in fact I need a "rarely connected" device that is mostly for the stand-alone viewing of content: eBooks, movies, pictures, music etc. I might do the occasional web browsing and document creation/editing, but I mostly want a versatile media device.

Edit: It appears it has an Atom processor and Invidia ION graphics. If that is the case, maybe it will come with the Windows 7 drivers on CD and you can upgrade? If that were true, I might change my mind about this device.
