At the Frankfurt fair with no stand, but they put it on their web site. Either it is odd marketing or their might be an announcement at a press conference. Or is it just an introduction of their product to the press or am I wrong again and it is nothing close to it?

Sorry I was day dreaming again the text on their site is pretty clear.

"We welcome everybody to visit us and to find out about the possibilities of electronic reading and the iLiad. You can find us among the Dutch Publishers in Hall 6.0, Stand A959. Additional information on the Frankfurt Book Fair 2006, can be found here."

So will it be a glass covered Iliad and if you ask you might be able to get in touch with an Irex employee…

I wish I could be there, but I cannot stay in Frankfurt. If anyone meets iRex, please bring your digicam with you!

and *please* ask them if a release date in the middle of october makes it the october release.

i believe october release is an euphemism for the release following on the september release, whenever it will take place.

I was there but who was not? - iRex. Haven't found their name in the catalog and no time to search the halls for. Maybe there was a community stand under a different name. Nontheless, I was angry!

We have looked them up in the catalogue before, and didnt find them.

And dont be angry. iRex said somewhere, that they will be with a stand from dutch publishers in hall 6, but have no own. And that they might not be there, because they were trying to get new B2B contacts.

You sure? Why would they want to do this, if they cannot even cope with the B2B demand they claim to already have?

I also find it extremely surprising that iRex did not have their own stand. Frankfurt is close to Dutchland, and the Frankfurt Book Fair draws several hundred thousand visitors from Europe, Asia, and the Americas each year, as the largest book trade event of its kind in the world. They won't have this chance again for the next twelve months... and then it might already be too late.

Quote:
Q) Do you have problems with your B2B concept, that you are cutting back on development costs?
A) No, if the community has noticed a slowing pace of commercial features, this is due to the increasing demands we experience in the B2B segment. To the contrary we are increasing our development headcount continuously to cope with the accelerated increase in demands.

I can understand, having worked in a small company by myself :-) Preparing for your own booth at an exhibition is quite an effort and usually you don't get that much attraction... as usually smaller companies are grouped together at an "outside area". Then it is still very expensive - for me the return-on-investment was never really there :-) So the best thing you can do, is to join a bigger company and just have a sub-booth there, it seems that is was iRex was doing :-)

The most important thing at such events are anyway the meetings, and for that you don't need any booth, you just need a good conference-room!

So my tipps for all small companies:
- Don't get your own booth, try to hook-up with some bigger companies to help you out (e.g. partner, etc) -> you will have more visibility and they usually do all the administrative work (design, setup, etc)
- Get a good conference-room (e.g. hotel, restaurant - best would be near the conference-center of course :-)
- Meet, Meet and Meet all the people out there :-)

And it seems, that is what iRex did?

So this is the last day of the even, so maybe it's too late now. But did anyone try to find them this way?...

"We welcome everybody to visit us and to find out about the possibilities of electronic reading and the iLiad. You can find us among the Dutch Publishers in Hall 6.0, Stand A959. Additional information on the Frankfurt Book Fair 2006, can be found here."

Seems like they were not to be found by any of us, at least.

I didn't get a chance to go look for them at the fair. I did see a couple of Iliads being waved around in keynote speeches and a lot of people were curious about the iLiad I was carrying around .. generally eReaders were not really evidient from what I saw ...
