It doesn't take much water to 'kill' a paper cookbook either. I guess it depends on your work routines in the kitchen. Personally I always keep a high degree of order in the kitchen while I'm cooking so I wouldn't worry too much. With a reader device you at least don't have problems with keeping the book open.

I haven't narrowed my requirement down further than that yet, but what about the rest of you? Is there a reader out there that falls into your "must-have" category, despite already having one (or more) reader(s) already?
I just bought the one on my 'must-have' list - a PocketBook 360. This is the 7th e-ink device I own, and as I have found out, if I own two devices that can do approximately the same thing, one of them ends up not being used so I've sold the 'old' devices off.

Apart from gadget-lust, a reason for buying the PB 360 was that I wanted an e-reader that can handle DRM'd ePUB (the publisher and libraries here are finally catching up with reg. ebooks), but it didn't make much sense to buy a 6'' device that can do roughly the same as my Kindle, so it made more sense to try a 5'' device instead and the PB seemed like good value for money - and I must say it is.

I've got my Aluratek Libre, and I'm totally happy with it, but the "Iwanna" bug is beginning to nip me - as in "I wanna 'nother one of these things".

Since I already have a reader with an LCD screen, I would probably want one that used e-ink. I think that I'd like one that handled the .LIT format natively, and I probably would want one with a screen size larger than 5". WiFi capability might be cool since it could be used in free WiFi spots; I wouldn't want anything that I'd need a data plan for.

BeBook One/Hanlin V3 is doing Microsoft .lit. But only DRM-free. When using DRM-free, you easily can convert into another format as well.
If, on the other hand, you want to have DRMed .lit, this only can be done on Microsoft platforms (Windows, CE, ...).
I've got some 500 (original, legally purchased) .lits. But I didn't mind, moved to another platform anyway.
So, basically you can go for any reader, as neither no eInk device or all eInk readers will meet your demands.

But it doesn't work all that well with .lit. At least not what I remember from whne I had one - and from the comments I've seen on the topic.

How much water do you think a piece of newspaper cutting can take?

That's the idea. If I will have to handle it with dirty hands (which I probably won't, but still), I'd put it in a ziplock bag (you know, for page turns).

And if I can use my reader in the bathtub, I should be able to use it in the kitchen!
