Now I am unhappy! I specifically asked one month ago if they were coming out with an upgraded EZ Reader and was told no. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74983 I would have waited.

As would everybody else. It is likely there is existing stock to sell. The famous case was a company that went out of business because they announced a new product before it was ready to ship.

I had no idea!
Dear All:

Yes, this morning about 5 minutes ago the new Astak Pocket PRO Version 2 (V3+) was made news to me. I ASKED about such a model a while back and was told "NO WAY". This is the first confirmation or even hint I got.

Yes, it is coming. Yes, Astak will have it! It will be a 6 inch with an Epson Controller and a 400MHz processor! It will have 16 level Grey Scale. It has USB 2.0. We are waiting to find out about the SDRAM amount. I am sure that there will be some other more subtle changes as well... not to the shape but to the inner workings! It will look identical!

We do NOT know if we want to put a new name on it. It may be put in the same packaging with just a "version 2" on it or it may be named "Electra".

It has been ordered; but we have NO idea yet when we will receive it. Rumor is 5-6 weeks. We will know more soon!

I do want to assure everybody that I did not know before moments ago! It IS, however, immenent!

A friend had one. It worked well, just had a tiny CRT.

That is going to be confusing if you call it that.
It looks, in just about every way possible, like an EZReader, which is not nearly so pocketable as a PocketPRO. Just going by Hanlin's V series references V3+ would be a successor to the Hanlin V3 (EZReader), not the Hanlin V5 (PocketPRO).

The Osborne ran CP-M on a Z-80 8 bit processor. After the IBM PC came out, they announced a luggable 8088 based IBM compatible. Everybody stopped buying the old Z-80 based machines and the company ran out of cash before they could get the BIOS up and running.

Dear All:

I have recovered a little from being blindsided by the V3+.

It will be called the "Astak EZ Reader PLUS"!~ I would have called it the EZ Reader PRO... but that would have been too confusing. Astak EZ Reader PLUS will be its name! I know a name seems a trifle... but getting a name FAST for a device cuts through the confusion and helps all at Astak get on the same page! Otherwise we go for weeks calling it: "That new improved 6 inch".

It does have: 16 level grey scale, the Epson controllert with 400MHz processor, USB2.0, AND 64MB SDRAM. There are other little changes too such as a search function and hyperlinks similar to the Pocket PRO but already in the device!

I can only surmize that when all the new models with SIPix screen were delayed due to the screen that they took my idea that they had originally turned down and went with it anyway! You recall that I even named it the "V3+".

As you know, the factory does NOT like (or tolerate) leaks of info!! As such, I was NOT told.

Dear Polly:

SIPix has a screen problem. I would be killed to provide any detail. But, it is delaying shipping ANY screens to anybody. All is still planned for the A6; but it may be another month or so before the Factory can get the SIPix screens... possibly longer!

I am sure we will carry it!! But the factory knows more than we do about the problem and the finding of a solution. This EZ Reader PLUS is a fabulous alternative while waiting. It tells me the delay could be a while still on the A6. AND...the fact that the factory jamned in all the goodies into the PLUS and did not raise the price even a penny is scintalating!

Squee!! I am really excited about this product.

I have been mainly researching on behalf of my mother (who wants an e-reader to go to Africa with) but with the Ez Reader Plus, I may have found a combination of features and price point that I can't resist.
