More than 20 books in a month?! All I can think to say is "WOW!"
That's like a book a day almost. Unbelievable!

More like a book every day and a half.

And most of my reading is done on the journey to and from work which is close to 3 hours a day (and maybe another hour or so before bed).

And I still found time to complete all the missions on MarioKart DS :-)

Have you considered moving closer to work...? Thats, what, a 90 min journey each way, so you must be going nearly the whole length of a line, and possibly several zones...

jęd: You think I do that journey for fun?!?!

I live in North London, and work down past Canary Wharf (Specifically Barnet to Crossharbour).

If I moved closer, I wouldn't be able to afford a shoebox. Not to mention I live near my family, moving here would make visiting them tedious. To say the least.

You could always sell your iLiad. It's probably worth two shoeboxes.

Yeah, I've only done twelve in September (and will finish the 13th today).

Which is a good reason for our buddies at iRex to get the DRM issue resolved IMHO.

Were they really turned away by Microsoft and Adobe? I find this difficult to believe. Both are trying to push they formats, and why should they not provide the necessary DRM infrastructure to a third party like iRex? In fact, I think everyone can license the technology from Microsoft and also from Adobe. So why not iRex?

Hello all, I have recently bought an iLiad (which still works fine *knocks on wood*) and I have been following the irex forum and this forum for awhile and finally decided to make a post so here I go.

I think we are barking at the wrong tree here. iRex only offers an eReader not ebooks.

Look how easy it was to make content for the iLiad by Manybooks.net ... so BAEN books or Fictionwise could easily offer their non drm content in PDFs for the iLiad.
Maybe its time to bark up on that tree...

Some iRex rep said on the iRex forum that one of the major ebook content providers would offer iLiad content in the near future (Mobipocket? they been in talks for awhile now) I assume that effort comes from Mobipocket and not iRex because I dont see iRex or Sony for that matter develope a viewer for each possible ebook type (Mobipocket; Msreader, ...). Thats why Sony made their own format (which i dont think is a good solution in LONG term).

What we really need is a common ebook format (like the mp3 for audio) but that seems to be an endless discussion and it looks like the publishers are missing the train soon if you see all the eReaders hitting the market.
I guess it will be up to the community

Anyway atm I am a very happy pirate (yes i get my ebooks via illegal channels); and I will continue to be untill ebooks are offered without DRM.

For those who crave to read any of the latest ebooks on the iLiad send me a pm and i'll mark the x on your map

that's the only thing that will convince the capitalists.

acquiescing to d.r.m. to get "bestsellers" is a mistake
that will only encourage the greedsters to pursue it.
sending the message loudly and clearly that d.r.m.
means we won't buy their product is the only answer.

The problem is that my life is too short to categorically boycott DRM. By the time publishers turn away from DRM, my eyes will have deteriorated to a point that I cannot read any more books.

Some publishers have already started. And the rest will have no choice but to change.

After people get their eBooks through non-legal channels enough times they will ask why they are paying for them in the first place. That won't be a good thing.

it's an old story.

we've all seen how the music industry lost the fight for the consumers because pirates offered the content cheaper, faster and more convenient.

and we see how sugarbread and whipes don't work, because people, when they see that there's an alternative to artificial scarcity, well, they just don't look back. Which is, somehow, a real pity, because someone still has to produce the content. And proofread/record.

Somehow the concept must change from buying to own something physical to paying the creator for the work.
