I have been writing poetry since 1985.
I have felt it was readable by others since about 1995. I'm not saying it should take others that long, but I tried different things. Some of my poems turned out to be a synopsis of a movie. Certainly not original. I would say, write, write, write. I found that I could describe things in such a way as to 'paint movies on eyelids' as one person has described my poems. In other words, read one of my poems, and close your eyes. If you can then see it as a movie, then my wording worked. Not everyone likes my style. Up to them. I have read plenty of stories that some folks absolutely loved, but I didn't see the point. Learning to describe things. For 5 years I ran a first edition AD&D campaign, and found I could come up with room/situation descriptions that left few players to have to guess what their characters saw. Again, practice, practice, practice. No substitute for it. Last edited by Joebill; 06-09-2010 at 06:49 PM. Reason: typos |
