Fair enough. The only other thing I can recommend is just turning the touchpad off entirely when typing. On some laptops there's a switch right above or somewhere around the touchpad to do that (usually has a light indicator to say whether it's on or off). Might be inconvenient to have to keep flipping it on and off though.

OK, disclaimer first: It's XP and it's german, but perhaps it will help.

The one in "curcle" should be turned off - it says something like "hide cursor while typing".
There is also an option to press Ctrl and see where the cursor is - the part with the "on (might help)" text.

I have the same problem while trying to save a picture edited with GIMP. Does the disappearing occur only when you use a certain program?

Good luck!

P.S. I also wrote the post using ASCII and not binary code.

LCF is absolutely right - I had forgotten about the "hide cursor" option. The menu options should be under mouse properties or touch-pad properties in control panel.

I knew it I forget something...

Control Panel -> Mouse -> Somewhere there...

Microsoft's Vista Website says:
Quote:
1.

Open Mouse by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware, and then clicking Mouse.
2.

Click the Pointer Options tab, and then do any of the following:
*

To change the speed at which the mouse pointer moves, move the Select a pointer speed slider towards Slow or Fast.
*

To make the pointer work more accurately when you're moving the mouse slowly, select the Enhance pointer precision check box.
*

To speed the process of selecting a choice when a dialog box appears, select the Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box check box .
*

To make the pointer easier to find when you move it, select the Display pointer trails check box, and then move the slider towards Short or Long to decrease or increase the length of the pointer trail.
*

To ensure that the pointer doesn't block your view of the text you're typing, select the Hide pointer while typing check box. You need the opposite.
*

To find a misplaced pointer by pressing the CTRL key, select the Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key check box.
Hope it helps!

Edit: Might this site help?

With some applications you can't see the cursor if you have the trails enabled.
