Never had any problems with reading ever but I did get an MRitis last year. Seems like our own Marc is suffering from it now.

And I'm getting sick of working wood. After 32 years at it I find that I need to focus twices as hard on what I do. Fingers are at peril...

This has happened to me a couple of times. Also with DVDs. I can't concentrate and cannot be bothered with anything. So I do something else for a while and then when I finally sit down with a book again, it's sort of a relief. I tend to overdo things that I enjoy, a break is good every now and then.

Hmmm, yeah I just came out of a long period of very little reading. It was the availability of ebooks that brought me out of it. I think a lot of the thoughts/reasons already expressed are true (and of course vary from individual to individual).

myself...For 20 years read about 4-8 books a month and loved to read...then one day I had a major burn out. Stopped reading a lot for about two years...Now I read about 4-5 books a month. Slower but more attentively, however, now I enjoy Non-Fiction more than Fiction, where before it was the opposite.

TV: did not have one for 20 years and did not miss it; then I got married. Now, I see if for the occasional film or to watch English Football.

My burnout is not so much like yours. I just get extraordinarily critical and don't enjoy anything I read.

I find - for me - switching genres helps.

Of course, if this restlessness is more caused by stress and a life gone crazy-wild all of a sudden, switching genres might just cause one more feeling of things being out of control and abnormal!

Hope everything slows down for you soon!

Partial to Newcastle, But honestly, I don't support one Footy team. I just love to see a good game. I do support Sapporo Consodole in the Japan league and go to about 7 or 8 matches a year, dually followed by a massive hangover.

I used to see Lokomotiv and Spartak games when I lived in Moscow for many years.

@FizzyWater: Understand being Critical. Most Books can be painful to read. Hence, I am very reluctant to read fantasy/sf/mystery due to the huge amounts of mediocre writing. Also, I find endings terrible for the most part. Rarely, get a good one......
A major reason I dont listen to audio books. I skip all the Tripe

I don't watch sports. T.V. commentators annoy the Hell out of me. However, I found Olympic curling oddly calming.
I do switch genres pretty frequently now. I'll read anything that catches my interest except romance. I do enjoy nonfiction, mostly biographies, history and true crime. Thanks for all the kind suggestions.

I go through periods in which just about everything I try to read annoys me in some way. The only way to combat it is to wait it out. Fortunately, it's not affecting me right now.

this thread is funny but right on the spot...

I had a big video burnout. I was a big big video junkie. Movies, Series, toons, documentaries, YOUTUBE GRRrrr, and what not.

But the good thing is I turned to reading after my video burnout and was amazed at remembering how much I loved reading !
