I havent seen a Kindle, but from what I have read I prefer the PP by a long shot, far better reader. I don't like pointing out just sheer negatives in products, because lets be honest the Kindle is a good device. I just don't feel comfortable in owning a device that will update itself, send regular stats back on which book I'm reading, current page, location in the world etc.

My PP gets updated when I update it, and what book I read or how long I have been reading it is my business.

Agreed. Amazon has a somewhat closed system..... Plus you can't get more ironic than a company that deleted copies of George Orwell's "1984" from Kindle Owner's accounts. I am sure Orwell was laughing as he turned in his grave.

Slate Blue is a dark blue with sort of a greyish tint. It is gorgeous.

The Metallic Purple is SO hard to describe. It clearly is NOT a purple. It is my biggest problem trying to explain it. It is our least understood color as people think it is purple and it is so much more. It is a light purple with somewhat of a silverish tint. It clearly is NOTHING like a pink. It is somewhat similar to a purple post-it note. It is gorgeous.
It looks Lavender to me (which is a purple-pink)
Can't tell the Metallic part on the Web page.

Still think you should have a Hunter Green to round things out

Turtlesoup picks Metallic Purple!!

Dear Turtlesoup:

You will love that color. It is SO hard top explain it. Do me a favor and TRY when you receive it to describe it.

In any case... the Pocket PRO in any color is really a wonderful and full-featured device! There are three page turn stations on it. The Text-To-Speech is a great feature. You'll love the speed! BUT... what will grab you is the feel and the weight! At 5.8 ounces this just feels about perfect in the hand!!

A firmware edition is due out next week that will GREATLY help the .LIT format on the Pocket PRO and FB2 will also be enhanced.

Do not forget now:
1. Charge it 8-12 hours whether the light turns green or not!
2. Do the latest firmware upgrade on www.theEZreader.com/html under "support"
3. READ the FAQ sheet on that same website. The User Manaul was written 8 months ago. The FAQ sheet is up-to-date. Really, the tips and helpful hints will get you going fast!

Welcome to our happy little band of Astak Lovers!!

I just purchased and received my purple PP. I love the color, but agree with Robertb. It is a light purple(lavender) with a silvery sheen, I also purchased a pink one for my sister so can tell you there is a definite difference between the two.

Since I also purchased a blue one for my brother I can tell you the blue is also beautiful, but I am so glad I went with the purple for myself.

I dunno... the purple is an awfully fun color to gloat about! It's a perfect color! Well, it was one of my wedding colors, so of course I'm gonna like it. *l*

I can't wait to get mine, it should be arriving on the 9th. It's going to be very, very hard to wait through 12 hours of charging to read it! I'm sure I'll manage, though.

Davimee's picture is what eventually made up my mind. That was a great pic, and I agree about it seeming very lavender. I suppose we'll see how I describe it when it gets here.

I'm very happy for you! And yes, the 12 hours is hard to wait! I kept going back to mine to play with it a bit while it was charging, but for the most part I tried to leave it alone and occupy my mind with other things. I've really been enjoying mine, and I hope you have as much fun with yours!

You can normally read while tethered to the charger.
The initial charge(s) is important in that it calibrates the charge meter.

I recommend that you do NOT confuse the charge meter by interrupting a charge before the "Plug" shows. (My first few charges took 8-12 hours for the Plug, even with the start point over half.)

Dear Duckey:

We had planned a green. Unfortunately, we had a girl on our staff at that time that was wild over PINK. Everything she owned was pinky pink. In order to get her support on the other colors I gave in and let her have PINK. Some people love the pink to this day.

Maybe in the future we can correct this!!

Dear turtlesoup:

That Davimee is one really nice person and I am grateful to her!

That first charge of 8-12 hours (EVEN IF THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN SOONER) is very important to your future happiness. Please read the FAQ sheet on www.theEZreader.com under "support" and after charging do the firmware upgrade. That firmware upgrade has a bunch of goodies in it and one of them will greatly increase your battery charge life!! The FAQ is really a primer for "HOW to get ready to operate your Pocket PRO"!
