exactly correct. Irex faced some breakage issues with this if i remember correctly. When you get in to that 9.7 and above size you face some issues with twisting forces breaking the displays. The choice is then to make the glass thicker which causes the device to be heavier. The flexible plastic and foil backed new displays allow for more durable displays which also can be even thinner and lighter.

I am not certain 11" screens would create such issues.
iRex may have had problems, but if I can judge from my iLiad, the iRex is nowhere nearly as well built as my current Kindle DX, or most Apple products. With a sufficiently rigid shell, an extra inch shouldn't be a huge issue. It seems there is a 15" LCD NVIDIA tablet lurking around, as well as the 15" LCD Vega Android tablet. These are a bit too large for me probably, but I am assuming they have thought about the issue. |

you're already talking about a much thicker and heavier display when you are talking about those devices with LCD panels. e-ink devices need to be thin and light.
( i still enjoy that pic of the nvidia CEO- he's like "what?" yeah we got a tablet!" ![]() Amazon has experienced the issue with the Kindle DX as well. They have replaced many DX screens |

I've had a Kindle DX for a while now and I can tell you that it is very well built and very rigid. I travel with it often, stuffed in a backpack, in the back of airplane seats. Absolutely no problems. I too like the NVIDIA pic ![]() |
