Thanks for your replies.
Unfortunately the little lorikeet didn't make it. It looks like it died in its sleep and just fell off the perch. Fly free, little one... I'm so sorry.. ![]() |

Thanks everyone..
This may sound like I'm making excuses for Ben, but maybe the little fellow already had something wrong with him, for him to come down to the ground in the pouring rain. Before I buried the bird, I examined him, and he had no visible injuries - not a scratch. Ben has had hold of one of my own birds before, Cory... Cory is a Short billed Corella or Bare eyed Cockatoo.. Ben had a doggy friend here and somehow Cory got out, and they both went for her... When I finally got the dogs out, Cory was soaking wet, her heart beating a million miles per hour, and I thought she was going to die... She didn't, and as with the Lorikeet, she had no mark on her... Here's a picture of Cory and my other bird Shrek... Shrek is a Quaker, and he takes no shit from anyone, so if he perceives I'm in danger he'll fly over and bite me hard, so I get the message: Get Away! ![]() Last edited by lene1949; 03-03-2010 at 01:54 AM. Sorry to hear the Lorikeet didn't make it. I miss the ones we used to have flying around. They seem to have moved on. Don't blame the dog too much. If the bird would have been alright Ben wouldn't have been able to get it. And it's just his nature.
Thank God my cat is no danger to anything bigger than a grasshopper - and I don't mind them dead. Nor those importated gekkos. I save the Australian native gekkos but not the others. But good on you for trying to save the little birdie bird. (I still call them birdie birds, cos when I first came here I didn't know the name -> Rainbow Lorikeet.) |

I notice you are reading "Saving Mankind", whilst you yourself are saving our fellow creatures...Shame such a beautiful bird decided to leave, but kudos and karma to you for trying.

Missy brought in another dead bird today... It was a Pee-Wee... Looks like a magpie, but much smaller... I got it off her and buried it next to the lorikeet...
I'm sure the very wet weather we've had has something to do with it... When the rain is pelting down, the birds get very wet and can't fly... Unfortunately my dogs are now very 'bird-savvy' and even start stalking my pet birds... I speak to them in Capital Letters, when they annoy my birds. Seems to work... ![]() |
