Pan-Macmillan are already offering DRM-free books, Jon.

According to Pan-Macmillan, they sell eBooks in the Adobe eReader format. So when did B&N sell eReader to Adobe?

I don't like DRM, never have

If you buy something, you should own it and be able to do whatever you want with it short of making copies and selling them.

The problem, I guess, is how do you get your customers to pay the price of the product (the fairness of which is a topic for another post) when the same item can be had for free?

Radiohead tried the voluntary payment scheme for their album "In Rainbows" but I don't think it got very far.

How about if we make all books, music, and movies free - and pay the artists a decent wage out of taxes -- the most awards on MTV or the Brits would get the highest salaries!

Adobe added support for the eReader DRM quite a while ago... it is what is used on the Nook.... although I'm not sure Adobe eReader format is quite right term.

You know as well as I do that even the book stores and publishers don't really understand DRM.

The Radiohead voluntary payment scheme for "In Rainbows" sounds successful to me... http://www.npr.org/blogs/monitormix/...iment_did.html
