The installer of the hack reboots the device, and firmware updates clears it out.

According to IREX, the SDCARD view no longer directly views the contents of the SDCARD but reads the contents from a database created by the indexing process. So you will have to let the indexing complete to see the entire contents of the SDCARD.

Actually, it never did read from the card in the first place. Only on DR1000S v1.7 it used to read from disk. DR800 and the new DR1000 firmware always read everything from global.db.

That's definitely true. The modified CTB uses the same db functions for the folder support.

Hi Matthijs,

The new mechanism only shows 'known' files (file extensions). I.e. Xournal files are not shown until the .xoj-extension is installed. At least in SDCard-mode, in the Books-mode there seems to be another mechanism (only formats supported by build-in apps?)
Can you explain the difference and the rationale (why are they not shown)?

"Books" is not a folder view, it is a TAG. Everything that is tagged as a Book is shown when you click 'Books' from the Home screen as a flat list.

There are two ways to get tagged as a book:
1) Be located inside the Books folder
2) Have one of the following hardcoded (ctb/src/tags.c) extensions: pdf, epub, pdb and *not* be inside one of the other tag folders (Images, News, Notes, Help, Personal Documents)

In the SD card, it shows all files that are registered in GConf as valid filetypes.

There is currently no way to tell which extension should get which default TAG (it's hardcoded). That may be a nice future improvement (as part of the filetypes GConf tree, e.g. /apps/er/sys/ctb/filetypes/*/default_tag). If anyone feels like implementing that, they could contribute it and we'd gladly integrate.

Thanks for the explanation (I should start studying the DR800 code to get up-to-speed for the new R2.0 firmware).
It is good to hear that you left some parts for us hackers to do .

Has anyone tried this hack with the new 2.0 Irex update?

I do NOT recommend trying this on the 2.0 update. It replaces a binary that is part of the firmware with something compiled out of 1.x.

At best, you lose a bunch of 2.0 functionality that is in the content browser.

At worst, you get to do a full restore of the firmware and it won't even boot correctly until you do.

The source files for the R2.0 firmware have not yet been released, this probably happens 1 or 2 weeks after the final R2.0 software has been released. Only then this kind of patches can be made.

Thanks - I'll keep an eye on this forum for when a "new" safe one is available.

Besides the comments about not trying the hack on a firmware version it wasn't desinged for (which others have already stated)... you do know that the new 2.0 firmware supports the folder option without needing a hack? Under the Advanced options menu you can turn on folder support. Is that all you needed the hack for?

Yes, I do know about the folder option - thanks, though. What I really wanted from the hack was the folder option moved up to after the book option on the home page. Also, the currently reading moved up. I don't use the other folders at all and wish I could just make them disappear!
