It's in the hands of the FCC apparently:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/05/s...-hits-the-fcc/

There's a link to the FCC site, where you can view the manual. Pretty interesting. I'm kind of disappointed that you can't change pages on the E-ink screen by swiping the lower screen, or at least, there's no mention of that in the manual that I can find.

It's not a one-handed page turner, that's for sure.

Why tell people they can order the first week of March?

The manual seems pretty thin content wise. No mention of the ereader capabilities. Everything is about the LCD area and email, audio, calculator, etc. I still don't know if content can be organized with folders/tags/collections. Is there a dictionary? Can you highlight and/or annotate? What are the font sizes? How do you bookmark a book (not a website). Basic info is just not there.

I'm starting to get really disappointed with the complete lack of communication from Spring Design. If the problem was just that they were waiting for it to get through the FCC, they should have either set a more realistic release date or, at the very least, kept those of us who are waiting informed instead of just silently missing deadlines. At this point I'm getting very concerned that they'll continue to fall short of expectations--no software updates, no SDK, no Alex market, etc.

Yes, I noticed this too--the manual is almost entirely about how to use basic Android rather than the original Alex features. I did notice that there was no mention of 3G capabilities--have they given up trying to find a provider and stripped it out?

You're right. I overlooked this omission. Then again there is so much that isn't there.

Well, it's Monday already and still the same message at http://www.springdesign.com/us/shopping/index.action :

Thanks for your patience. We're almost ready with our Alex store.
Keep checking in and by the first week of March you'll be able to order your Alex online.

Engadget update: http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/08/s...der-early-spr/

This is getting ridiculous. I'm seriously reconsidering getting this device at all, even if it is ever released.

Hmm, must be something else, not just "some slight issues with the order page"
Doesn't sound very serious

Yeah, this is kind of pathetic. Everybody's used to delays in release dates, and it's not like I need a press release or personal apology for the change in dates, but the failure to at least update their website doesn't look good. If they're this bad at keeping people who want to buy their product informed about the release date, how can I trust them to be fair and responsive if I have an issue with their hardware?

Here's the next release date.

At least time my dreams won't be officially dashed when it's not actually released on March 16th.

How complicated and time consuming is it to update the website to reflect this new date?

I had read about 6 weeks ago, at about the time there was a plan with Borders possibly, that the first model would not have 3G.

That would come with the next version.
