i think you got this wrong.

With the free sdk you get some libraries to do screen refresh and such stuff, and ssh server on the iliad and maybe a toolchain. This (format viewers) is just to inform about the main purpose of the executables. I guess no one minds if you port Monkey Island for the Iliad with the free SDK.

If you want to get support, then you have to pay.

I don't need no stinkin' JTAG debugger to add more than a simple content viewer.

But for those that do, the paid developer program is a warm wool blanket on a cold night with the wolf howling outside the window.

What I'm curious about is how, after I develop my wondrous new executable, do I distribute it to others? I can't expect my fellow iLiadians to get a free developer account so they can add executables to their own iLiad...

what about this:

Quote:
When a viewer is developed, several possibilities exist:
  • The viewer can be installed by any iLiad user (even non-developers) on the iLiad internal memory, that can be accessed using the USB connection to the PC, allowing developers to distribute their viewer to all iLiad users.
  • iRex may decide to formally support the viewer as a default viewer for a specific document type. If an iLiad user tries to open content that requires this viewer, but that is not yet available on its iLiad, through iDS the viewer can be made available automatically at the next connect cycle.
  • A combination of the above.
They could add a option in the settings, like "include homebrew viewers" , default set to off, so if one knows he needs a homebrew viewer, he enables that option. On the next iDS sync he gets a menu for selecting "homebrew viewers" he would like to use. Think of a interface similar to the common package managers on Linux or, for something simpler, a list similar to Windows Software list with a "+" and "-" button for each entry.
