What happens if you have your books on a lock SD card? Could it be your unit is defective? Doesn't the retail package come with a AC adapter? Anyone else here have this problem?

As far as a I know, I don't have a lock SD card. And yes, the unit did come with an AC adaptor. As I said, when I use the adaptor the books on my reader are lost.

Are your books on the built in memory or memory card? I'm looking to buy a prs-900. This is a let down if this a design flaw, but you're first person to mention this problem. Are you gonna get a new adapter like the tech suggested?

It's the built in memory card.

I don't know what I'm going to do yet...I'm so disgusted with Sony at the moment, I think the thing to do is throw this thing in the back of the drawer and go back to reading books. It's cheaper with far less aggravation.

There are many here who have much better experience with their readers, and I'm happy for them. But given my experience, I'd say get a Kindle if your heart is set on getting a reader. A friend who has had one for quite some time is very happy with hers, and the Amazon selection of books is FAR larger and cheaper.

Just my $.02...

I chose the sony reader because I want to read my DRM free documents on it. I use amazon's kindle on PC, it okay for now and prices are cheaper. I think you should try it on a SD card. But after someone can confirm that the reader doesn't need re-syncing when you switch cards. That's best solution with the least headache if it works. I hate dealing with tech support. It's a waste to leave it in the draws, sell it if you can't get it to work.

Truthfully, I wouldn't sell it to someone as it is presently. As you say, I'd rather have a root canal than deal with tech support, and so far, Sony's has been worse than most. I got on line with them the first time it happened, and again the second, and all they keep telling me is that I should buy a new adapter and try that. The thing isn't two months old yet, and they're telling me that they're not authorized to send me a new adapter.

It boggles the mind.

On the Sony's website it say the adapter let's you read while charging. So the moment you plug in the adapter your books get erased? what happens when you read a book and plug it in?
I know it will sound like a terrible idea, but have you tried talking to them on the phone? They should replace adapter since it's in warranty.

No, I haven't tried using it while it's plugged in.

I probably will call one of these days, but given the limited selection of material, I'm in no hurry. Honestly, the only thing I use it for is daily Bible reading, and goodness knows, I already have a hard copy of that!

Try it and see what happens. You not limited to Sony's E-bookstore. Did you browse at fictionwise.com? Also you can borrow E-book from the library. Is the digital version of the bible a good replace for the physical?

I don't read fiction, and most of the stuff I read I like to keep for reference. For example, I'm a guitar player and I like to hang on to books about, say, music theory so I can look things up again when I forget (which happens more and more these days!).

As far as the Bible goes, I'm old and used to doing things a certain way. The e-book Bible is fine as far as it goes but in truth I like holding the hard copy in my hands. It's a personal thing, and I don't expect that to make any sense, but that's just the way it is.

I just tried the reader while it's plugged in with the USB cord and you cannot use it while attached.
