That's because of the mid-ocean ridge.

I guess since Al Gore Invented the internet, you will have to ask him to approve its expansion past Hawaii

I have no idea how you got an EPUB or how to convince B&N that I'd prefer that format or even how to tell if it is available.
I never told them I wanted epub. It just happened that way. I just downloaded it again on a different computer and got epub again. The only thing I can think of is maybe you've got an old version of the app.

Regarding DRM free PDB's, they have had those before. The freebie classics BN had when the ebook store opened (Dracula, Little Women, etc...) were DRM free. BTW, I'm still getting PDB's for these, so not every book is available in epub.

Altar of Eden has DRM for me too. The Hands of Buddha is DRM free.

Thanks for that. Saved me the trouble of reinstalling the reader to see if it would download a DRM free version.

I just downloaded it that day (yesterday or day before?). Don't see how it could be an old version. I remember getting one epub from them long ago, but assumed they would give out eReader unless forced to do otherwise (since they own the DRM scheme, it's free for them, while epub costs money).

Actually, they are using their own DRM on epub too. It's not Adobe's ADEPT. It's based on your credit card number just like the ereader DRM.

It's modified, but still licensed from Adobe. And will be in ADE soon (and probably on the Sony reader shortly thereafter).

Apple, however, seems to have picked their own. No word if it will work in ADE or not, so far.

I haven't had to enter my CC into the reader app (but it went out and verified my account with email address and password via the internet, so probably the app loaded the encrypted version on it's own).
I downloaded their desktop and did not have to enter CC info to get free books.
However, I can not tell what file format the free ones I downloaded are in. They are not mobi though

I had to enter login information to the desktop app. So they can access creditcard information stored on their site. I have found that some of the freebies are protected and some are not.
